A Weather Announce Hiatus

Indie pop band A Weather announce an extended hiatus on their website after no update since last December. In the message frontman Aaron Gerber makes it clear that the band is not permanently breaking up but will not be as active in the next few years.

"Hi Everyone,

Here is a long-overdue update on A Weather and our plans for the future. I have been receiving questions asking when our next show will be, if we have any tours in the works, or any new releases coming. While I do my best to respond individually to these inquiries, I thought it best to write something sort of official that will hopefully address some of these topics.

It should come as no surprise, given our musical inactivity over the past year, that A Weather is now on an extended hiatus. Aaron K. has been focusing more on his new family and his career as a psychiatrist. Lou is currently in D.C., studying urban planning. Sarah and I are also embarking on our own grad school adventures. She is pursuing a degree in social work and I am about to start a MFA program for poetry writing. In addition to adjusting our priorities and time commitments, these new programs mean that Sarah and I are moving from Portland Oregon to the New England area. This is a major change for us, and it was not an easy decision to make. Since 2006, Portland has been the perfect home for A Weather to grow as a band. However, the time feels right for something new, and we are both thrilled and passionate about the work weԬl be doing at our new schools.

A Weather is by no means calling it quits permanently. We hope to be able to reconvene during the summers, between semesters, and whenever we have spare moments. Last June, I recorded nearly an albumԳ worth of demos, and eventually I would love to do something with those. Most likely our line-up will shift or be very minimal, and there will be less tours and shows. For the time being, any A Weather activity will probably be limited to the east coast, but you never know. And I, for one, would love to continue our annual Christmas song tradition!

We are hugely grateful to everyone who has supported us over the past few years by listening to our songs, coming to our shows, buying our records, writing kind and thoughtful articles, and sending us encouraging messages. Particularly, we want to thank all of our friends and fans in Portland and all of the amazing Portland bands weԶe been lucky enough to play with. We are going to miss all your rain sprinkled faces very much.

Again, this is not a final goodbye, just an explanation that A Weather will be less musically active over the next few years, and will no longer be based in Portland. The future for us is a bit uncertain but this makes it all the more exciting.

Best,

Aaron G."

i got one of their CDs in a random 'grab bag' of 10 CDs for a dollar in a CD store in Arizona

it wasn't bad, honestly. but I had no idea they were even a notable enough band to announce a hiatus and have anyone care.
