Sinead O Connor Plans New Album 2006-10-31 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 2 Comments | Sinéad O'Connor is currently working on her eight studio album, titled Theology, to be released some time next year.
Theology is to be O'Connor's third straight album of "spiritual" songs, and the first to consist solely of original material. It follows 2002's Sean Nós Nua (literally 'The New Old Style'), a collection of traditional Irish songs sung in the distinctive 'sean nós' style, and her 2005 album of rasta covers Throw Down Your Arms.
Asked about the recording of the album, O'Connor answered: "It's all acoustic, and I always wanted to make an acoustic album, as bare as possible, with just voice and guitar a lot of the time. And I always wanted to write a book of theology, but I can't write books so I'm doing it with songs."
She's since decided to record the album on two discs with the same songs, one acoustic and one featuring a full band, and will premier much of the new material at an exclusive invite-only performance at the Sugar Club in Dublin next week. Tickets for the event are being given away via the artist's website.
Theology will be released on Sinéad's own That's Why There's Chocolate And Vanilla label.
