Sir Norman Wisdom dies 2010-10-04 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 13 Comments | One of Britain's most iconic entertainers, Sir Norman Wisdom, died on Monday at the age of 95.
Wisdom passed away in a nursing home on the Isle of Man having suffered a series of strokes over the past year. His death had been mistakenly reported in 2008 by UK network Sky News, which broadcast a pre-recorded obituary before eventually apologising for the error.
Wisdom was best known as an actor and comedian - particularly for his comic creation Norman Pitkin - however he made his breakthrough in showbusiness as a musical performer while serving in the British army. He composed many songs for his films and released a number of albums over the course of his 60-year career.
