wow this sounds exactly like Times Like These.
|
| |
holy
|
| |
the offspring needs to go back to punk or gtfo
|
| |
What were they thinking?
|
| |
and i just listened to Times Like These for the first time, just to compare, and..yeah.
thats practically the same song
|
| |
Apparently they're not gonna go far
|
| |
Their other single Hammerhead, the bridge/last bit of the song sounded just like a Nirvana song. Can't remember which one, though. "Stay Away"?
|
| |
the fact that they continue to make music is unbelievable
|
| |
This band...................
|
| |
It's been a fucking long time since Ixnay
|
| |
Yeah, I really wish they would have thrown in the towel years ago. It's sad watching an "okay" band slip into mediocrity, and then utter shit.
|
| |
Song sucks
|
| |
Damn.........
|
| |
ok, granted. that guitar sounds A LOT like "Times Like These," but the rest of the song doesn't... at least from my ear, but i also haven't listened to "Times" in awhile.
also, song isn't that bad. in fact i thought the song had a real good rhythm to it and was fun whenever whatshisface wasn't singing
|
| |
First they stole from The Letters Organize (a band that happened to be signed to Dexter Holland's label, Nitro). Now, the Foo Fighters. These guys need to pack it up.
|
| |
Smash sucked too
|
| |
this was the first time i've ever published a news story, and apparently you're not allowed to be opinionated in it, so now that i'm just commenting, let me say that this ripoff was absurd. i mean rfrg was a disgrace and had a shitload of ripoffs on it. in fact, almost every song is a ripoff of either themselves or others:
1. half-truism - same exact format and vibe as mcr's "helena"
2. trust in you - verse is identical to "smash" by them.
3. you're gonna go far, kid - same exact chord pattern as "the kids aren't alright" by them.
4. hammerhead - apparently it ripped off some nirvana song according to one of the above comments.
5. a lot like me - can you say "what i've done" by linkin park?
8. nothingtown - verse steals a ton from the verse in "want you bad" by them.
12. rise and fall - just screams "american idiot" by green day.
overall, i used to LOVE the offspring and i, unlike many people, actually felt that splinter was a decent album and, while inconsistent, had some of their punkiest stuff in years, but between co1 and rfrg and the fact that apparently bob rock is supposed to be producing their new album again, this weezer-esque decline is really sad to watch (listen to).
|
| |
yea they have, and granted it's good that band change and at least have the balls to try something new, but there's a huge difference between that and what the offspring are doing. i mean i'd rather they keep making somewhat predictable punk stufff like they were great at instead of this godawful poppy bullshit. and btw w/ my rfrg critique, virtually every song that wasn't a ripoff didn't even sound like the offspring anymore anyway. i've REALLY lost some respect for these guys, especially considering this latest bullshit song. like i'm SURE dexter's aware that this is "times like these."

You guys be the judge. The full article about it can be found at...

| |
band needs to commit mass suicide
|
| |
Damn I have to admit that they ripped it off pretty good there. I'll always love these guys but they gotta hang it up I think.
|
| |
Wow, I'm a huge fan but that was pathetic!
|
| |
Band was never very good IMO, but jesus fuck was that terrible.
|
| |
First they stole from The Letters Organize (a band that happened to be signed to Dexter Holland's label, Nitro). Now, the Foo Fighters. These guys need to pack it up.
"Why Don't You Get a Job?" is a complete ripoff of the Beatles' "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da."
|
| |
sublimefan1991: Your song comparisons were genuinely bad. I'm just letting you know from a musician's standpoint that "Half-truism" sounds nothing like "Helena". And "A Lot Like Me" does not sound like "What I've Done". These songs you compared aren't even in the same key....
|
| |
But it's in the same "format and vibe" brah. Chill.
|
| |
not reading the comments above or below this one because there are bound to be some from sublimefan1991
|
| |
even though you wont read this. You are correct sir!
|
| |
Remember when sublimefan1991 made that one lulz-inducing list where he said something really dubious and retarded (anyone remember what that was? I can't, but I remember that it was hilarious as shit) and then he left for a while? That needs to happen again.
|
| |
ok i lied about not reading comments after... i know exactly what you're talking about, man it was something like 'singers aren't musicians'
|
| |
how will I sleep again the offspring wrote a terrible song
|
| |
in my opinion, singers who don't play instruments are hardly musicians, especially if they don't write their own lyrics. personally, i kinda have a natural hate for singers who dress up and dance w/ the mic stand on stage and think they're the shit, yet don't actually play any instruments (steven tyler, ronnie james dio, etc.). and especially singers who try to make everything all bluesy and profound when it doesn't have to be (ian gillan, robert plante especially). also, singers who are just tools and think they're badasses, but also don't play any instruments themselves (the singers from godsmack and disturbed mainly). also, i didn't include singers who mainly rap (such as p.o.d.'s, flobots' singers, etc.).
|
| |
And there it is, in all its glory. Thanks dude.
Just, wow.
|
| |
well that dude's got a point
dio sucked
|
| |
fyi dio wrote all his songs
but he fronted black sabbath, one of the biggest punk ripoffs ever
|
| |
here's a more coherent comparison:
Why Don't You Get A Job? = Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
Pretty Fly = Come Out And Play
Gone Away = Mad World (Tears For Fears)
You Will Find A Way = Times Like These
The Offspring. Punk rock for children.
|
| |
sad to see how shitty they are today
and really this song is exactly structured as the ff song
|
| |
It's Bob rock fault. On their last record they had song that sounded like Green day songs and Bob rock produced that. He's producing this record too.
|
| |
It's times like these you learn to live again it's times like these you give and give again it's times like these you learn to love again
|
| |
lol total rip-off.. ;c
|
| |
Gone Away = Mad World (Tears For Fears)
wait, what?
|
| |
@theacademy, guy you're def. a complete fucking loser if you really take time out of your day to actually recognize so many usernames on a website that you immediately know certain lists and shit from them. and btw i realize my top singers list was BY FAR not the best singers out there skillwise, but it's just who i was digging as singers at the time (several months ago at this point). despite that, i still stand by my position that singers who only sing are not musicians. legit nearly anyone could take a badass sabbath riff and turn in into a good song cuz the actual musicians in the band laid down such a killer track. and it's not that i never listen to bands where the singer only sings, but when the singer tries to act like some fucking diva and like they are the most important member of a band (i.e. steven tyler, brian johnson, ozzy osbourne, ian gillan), they just look like retards. maybe it's because i actually play guitar, drums, keyboard, and bass that i realize that if i were to take one of my orig. songs and just hand it over to some asshole to sing over it and he tried to act like it was his song just cuz he sang on it, that'd be bullshit. and i didn't "go away" cuz of any negative comments or anything, i just have shit going on in my life to the point where i don't spend literally hours a day on this website.

You have never had one original thought.
|
| |
The biggest similarity between the songs is the sucking
|
| |
Also, the times like these music video..
|
| |
You're all a bunch of whiny rip off's of your mums and dads.

Sublimefan1991: definition of singing - The act of producing musical sounds with the voice.
you make musical notes with your voice when you sing. anybody can do it, but it takes someone of talent to be able to use it well.
anyone can just pick up a guitar and play it bad. but with time and effort, you get better and eventually you can call yourself a guitarrist.
just like with singing. anybody can sing bad; most people sing bad. but then theres people who can use it well after practice. why do you think there are singing lessons? so people can improve on their singing.
singers who know what they are doing = musicians. the voice is an instrument, you can change the pitch, volume, tone, etc. the fact that it is part of your own body doesn't make it not.
|
| |
oh yeah, and back to the offspring:
they should have stopped after ixnay
|
| |
lol at anyone who expected this to be good
|
| |
I'm not sure what's more sad: The fact that they stole from the Foo Fighters, or the fact that anyone would WANT to steal from the Foo Fighters.
I mean, they're not the WORST band ever but....... the Foo Fighters? Really, Dexter? You couldn't have decided to plagiarize a LESS GENERIC band?
|
| |
If there was ever a band that needed to call it a day . . .
|
| |
I was gonna listen, but that would require me to pause the other music playing
|
| |
"Gone Away = Mad World (Tears For Fears)" wait, what?
same chord progression in verse...and most of the rest of the song
|
| |
"how will I sleep again the offspring wrote a terrible song"
i lol'd soundly
|
| |
"same chord progression in verse...and most of the rest of the song"
Can you please make the same list that you just did with a blues artist? please, it would be quite nice to see :-)
you seriously think that any songs that has the same chord progression is a rip-off?
(I didn't check what progression gone away has)
I I IV V
I IV V V
do you know that actually thousands of songs were written with such progressions? A chords progression is not the defining part of a song, it's not something that you rip off.
|
| |
djaydjay: I'm not saying ALL songs with similar chord progressions are ripoffs. When you get involved in blues structure, of course there have been thousands of popular songs with the blues progression.
but in rock music, when you're using the same four chords in the same key and pattern just like another popular rock song, then that's a slippery slope. at least try and make it your own a little bit. to me, the offspring are shameless that way, and it pisses me off that they're still touring & making money.
Gone Away/Mad World verse (F Mj):
vi I V ii ::: Fm G#Mj D#Mj A#Mj
and I appreciate someone speaking my language
|
| |
I'm sorry
***Gone Away/Mad World verse (G# Mj)
|
| |
you're all kinds of dumb.
gone away is pretty much the least complex song ever written. a blind, retarded monkey can pick up a guitar and play it. if that's your definition of a rip-off then surely it must have ripped off something earlier than tears for fears.... or tears for fears ripped someone off.
|
| |
I've always loved this band. This song is okay. Nothing wrong with it.
|
| |
I'm shocked, man. Usually, when people talk about "rip-offs", it's just one part and is debatable. But wow. This has it all. Near exact intro guitar riff. Clean guitar verse with a very similar melody. Very similar melody in the chorus. What a disgrace. It's not like this was some obscure Foo Fighters b-side. I'm really interested to see how they chalk this one up to coincidence. Hopefully, the band comes to their senses and this never gets recorded in the studio. What could they have been thinking?
|
| |
who cares still love the band to death
|
| |
Gone Away is so awesome. Fuck you if you don't like it.
And that new song is a ripoff, so what?? The Offspring have been pretty much dead for years. You are better off buying a second copy of Ixnay rather than buying their new album
|
| |
Ugh, this is disgraceful. Dexter, have some fucking dignity for once and hang it up
|
| |
Haven't bothered listening since Americana.
|
| |
@jesus
conspiracy of one was pretty good but thats about it
|
| |
sucks
|
| |
not the 1st time offspring copies songs but theyre still great, until splinter.
|
| |
me + andcas are the only overlaps in teh new thred
|
