Resistance has two good songs and a bunch of songs that range from below-standard to mindfuckingly horrible. Even the best two songs (Unnatural Selection and MK Ultra) are only good in how well they rehash the sound of the older, more creative Muse.

@ StrizzMatik I agree w/ you about Unnatural Selection being one of the better songs on that album, but MK Ultra was kinda meh. I, personally, loved the songs on The Resistance where they went completely out of their comfort zone (Undisclosed Desires, I Belong to You). God forbid they actually attempt to CHANGE UP THEIR STYLE. Hell, if anything, i'm glad they didn't record a direct clone of Absolution. That album, while it has some of the best songs of their career, also has WAY more filler than The Resistance.

Nah dude, Absolution even in its weaker moments is twice the album that Resistance is on it's best day. What's the filler exactly? Endlessley and Blackout maybe, but even those songs are still good. At least six of Muse's top 20 best songs are on that record.
Muse changes / evolves regularly from album to album, some in baby steps, others with big risk-taking. The problem is, The Resistance is an overproduced, musically lazy, lyrically terrible, egotistical, directionless mistake of a record and it's such a huge drop in quality from even BHAR it's stunning. I love it when bands change their style and evolve into something different and better. That is, as long as it isn't badly executed or is blatantly grasping for a commercial direction at the expense of everything that made them interesting and unique, something The Resistance is guilty of on both accounts.

The Resistance is fucking terrible aside from Exogenesis. On days where I'm feeling in a happy-go-lucky kind of mood, I can listen to the other songs without getting pissed off.
