I've never seen Mastodon live, are they the kind of band that play their songs by the number and note or do they improve parts of their songs adding more flare when they're playing live?

Looks like a pointless cash grab to me.
Digging: Venetian Snares/Hecate - Nymphomatriarch
|

They play their songs 'by the number and note.' They don't really engage the crowd in any way unless they have technical difficulties, and Troy will walk up to a mic and go, "So... anybody got... any jokes...?"
Digging: Saves the Day - Stay What You Are
|
| |
I liked them live, but that was awhile ago. Don't know how I would feel now. But yeah, basically what Balls said.
Digging: Neurosis - Times of Grace
|
| |
metal bands don't normally improvise much...it's more about the composition ofthe tune.
|
| |
I pay to see them play music, not tell jokes. I wouldn't go see a comedian an expect the, to sing a song in between jokes.
They are awesome live save for iffy vocals at times
Digging: Mastodon - Crack the Skye
|
| |
The vocals are shit live.
Digging: Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun
|
| |
jom hates mastodon
|
| |
So glad you registered just to say that. Cause you're completely right, every Mastodon album above a 4 is so much hatred.
|
| |
who the fukk is you
|
| |
^^^Haha, this should develop well.
And yah, I like Mastodon but they aren't anything special live. The vocals are pretty shitty. But seeing Brian Dailor (I think that's his name) pull off those tricky drum parts live is pretty breathtaking.
Digging: Idil Biret - Chopin: Nocturnes
|
| |
Mastodon are one of the dullest live bands around.
First time I saw them, just after Leviathan was amazing, crushingly heavy and really enthusiastic.
They play the songs well, but they don't really convey anything extra like a good live band does.
|
| |
Mastodon can do what they want in my books. So be it if they slap my tits around abit, my nipples will march like fire ants
Digging: Every Time I Die - New Junk Aesthetic
|

They were pretty damn good when I saw them, many years ago.
Digging: Jesu - Silver
|
| |
I'm seeing them in 8 days. Hope they're good.
Regardless, Converge will destroy.
Digging: Pavement - Wowee Zowee
|
| |
love this band not gonna get this
Digging: And So I Watch You From Afar - And So I Watch You From Afar
|

balls to the wall put it perfectly
pointless cash grab
however if this was being released before crack the skye it would be worth it
who releases an EP of songs you put out 3 months ago?
Digging: Irepress - Sol Eye Sea I
|
| |
Because the said item includes videos for two singles and three live tracks? The EP is no more of a cash grab than releasing the album to begin with.
|
| |
Kinda odd that they're releasing this now...
Digging: Gorguts - Obscura
|
| |
their show with dethklok was awesome because they show a bunch of awesome videos on a huge screen. Same with dethklok.
Digging: KiD CuDi - Man On The Moon: The End Of Day
|
| |
actually really good live when i saw them with dethklok last month. vocals are definitely not as bad as people make them out to be
Digging: Dethklok - The Dethalbum II
|
| |
sorta pointless if you ask me
Digging: Karnivool - Sound Awake
|
| |
I don't know, it could be worse. At least there's a mix of songs and it's not simply Oblivion, the score and then the video; there's a bit of this and that. Depending on price, may get this (if released in the UK)...
|
| |
ive seen mastodon live twice the second time when bill was sick in hospital and they absolutely rocked was very impressed how the improvised without a second guitarist unbelieveable seem them if u can
