Fela Kuti

Fela Kuti was a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist musician and composer, pioneer of afrobeat music, human rights activist, and political maverick. He was primarily known as the creator of "Afrobeat", a combination of jazz, james brown-esque funk, and traditional African chants and rhythms; So popular was his particular brand of this style, that during his lifetime he utterly failed to have rivals, essential sustaining a monopoly over the genre which lasted well after he has died, and even to this day the genre's sounds is still heavily indebted to him.
