  • Azertherion It's definitely a valid vision of things, but it has a major flaw: you're reducing music to it's intellectual value only. In most cases, thinking as this you don't even have to actually listen to music to enjoy it, you just have to like the artist's idea. (you said you loved atonal music iirc). It's a lackluster vision of music IMO, simply because it erases one's individual feeling when listening to music

  • Azertherion I remember you s***ting over Interpol for the same reason, just because it's revival, therefore unoriginal music. This has prolly to do with your vision of music. You probably worship originality, artists standing out of the trends, imposing their own vision of what beauty is (giving to Trout Mask a 4 is kinda symptomatic)

  • Azertherion This is, as for any "dead" (commercially speaking) genre, a big issue, as it quickly draws artists to artistically stand still. To draw a parallel to SW, he indeed uses the 70s nostalgia as a commercial argument (on Raven and sporadically GFD), but it isn't sufficient to declare all at once that his music is necessarily s***. Not to mention that SW did a lot of other albums that had very little to do with King Crimson or so.

  • Azertherion As we were having an argument over RDG's words: my main reason of being angry is that everyone took it as an opportunity to hate on SW, given the bad press he has on the site. Now concerning RDG's speech, he's obviously not totally wrong. A lot of prog albums are widely inspired by 70s giants (which is predictable given the fact that Prog musicians/listeners form a niche scene sharing the same references).
