Green Day is a pop punk/rock band from Northern California (Berkley to be precise) with a hook and a dream. The band is Vocalist/Guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, Bassist Mike Dirnt, and Drummer Tre Cool. While getting their musical education at punk staples like The Gilman Project, Green Day released two wildy popular underground LP's, 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours (the only album with drummer John Kiftenmeyer) and Kerplunk (The first album with Tre Cool.) After the success of these two LP's, Record Companies were chomping at the bit to sign these guys. They eventually signed with Reprise Records, shunning their Gilman Street fanbase to go bigtime.
Riding the commercial pop appeal of such classics as "Longview" and "Basket Case", their major record debut, Dookie, changed the face of music.
