The title track is bomb as fuck. The rest of the album never quite reaches that and has some
pretty boring moments but for the most part stays very enjoyable if not completely outstanding. As
a whole though, the album is worth it for its title track alone - Immediately infectious,
invigorating, and endlessly listenable, it might not be breaking new grounds, but it is everything
a jazz tune should be. |
Bohren und der Club of Gore Sunset Mission | 2.0 |
There is actually some pretty atmospheric stuff going on here - Problem is that every track is 100% exactly the same and there aren't memorable melodies or rhythms attached to any particular track to make that worth it. It's all just one long drawl of rainy imagery and saxophones. And at 70 minutes long, it wears well thin. |

Damn, damn, damn! Is all I can say. Their last couple of records aren't bad, but I did not think
WN could sound this good ever again - Easily on the level of Torture and Punish and Destroy at
least. These 5 minutes alone are better than the existence of the load of Spazz/Crossed Out/Man Is
The Bastard wanna be shitslitters we get today for Powerviolence. Here, instead of just playing
droney sludge with some vaguely hardcoreish moments, with 5 minutes WN figure they'd just throw
all the hardcore in and leave the sludge second and got damn it works. It's hard to argue that
something like this could honestly be among your favorites because it's so brutally short, but
I've been listening to this release non stop for well over half a year now with over 300 plays
(and that's only based on last.fm) and none of these tracks have gone stale, so I'd be lying to
myself if I told you I didn't love this to death. Fabulous job; I'm gonna miss these fucking
pricks. ---- Oh yeah, and Lack of Interest is there as well. They're pretty cool too, check them
out. But damn that A side tho. |

It has been a long time... Actually I can't recall the last time an album wrapped itself around my quite the way this did. I can't recall when was the last time an album enthralled me with its painstaking beauty to the extent that this has. This is gorgeous, gorgeous music, music that evokes every soft, airy feeling of calmness and warmth at its most "Ballad-y" and even at its most intense and melancholic ("Construo"). Everyone, and I do mean *everyone* should listen to this. At leat once. But they really should listen to it multiple times. |

How do you get more mesmerizing than this? How can you listen to the "My Eyes, My Heart" without picturing yourself in an entirely alien, unknown world with just enough similarities that it feels beautiful and fascinating just observing it? How can the grandness of "Traces of the Beloved" not feel like living observing the stars forever? I'm starting to think Hindustani Classical Music is one humanity's greatest inventions. It seems every time I listen to it or something inspired it, I'm more amazed than anything since the last HCM-inspired work. |

Perhaps the best techno/house compilation out there? I'm certainly nowhere near experienced enough to make a solid statement like that but who else can presume of making a 3 and a half long
compilation of techno and not have a single track be disposable? Just listen to the bassline from Roaming or the energy of The Fake Left, or the beauty of Arise (A good entry song for fans of the
likes of Discovery-era Daft Punk) and you'll understand why this is a holy grail within circles of techno fans. |

Nowhere near as intense and abrasive as its name might imply (Or terribly psychedelic for that matter), but somehow that doesn't matter at all because what you're getting here is still one of the best packages around - Analog Africa's debut does not disappoint, bringing a variety of afro-filled sounds from one of Africa's best hidden secret scenes in Togo and Benin, dropping some of the tightest funk around with plenty of Fela Kuti and James Brown for fans, and a slight Latin flavor for extra exoticism. I don't wanna be in the same place as you if the drums on "Ou C'est Lui Ou C'est Moi" or the chants on "Le Super Borgou De Parakou" don't get you going at all. |
