With his quick spitting approach and willingness to get beats from anywhere (Yes fans should check out "The Troglodyte Wins") Busdriver puts out an album that must be remembered at the end of the year for one of the best of 07. Fans of more bass heavy tunes will delight in the up tempo songs such as "Kill Your Employer" or "(Bloody Paw on the) Kill Floor" while tracks like the lead single Less Yes's, More No's" is more relaxed with a synthesizer cot. Roadkillovercoat is a consistent piece and one worth a listen. |

Alright, I cave. For some time now I've been trying to point out the insufficiencies of this album which make it a 4.5, but I can lie no longer. This is poppier than Air's previous masterpiece (not 10,000 Hz, wiseguy) but is just as dreamy and aesthetically pleasing. While I still hold Moon Safari as king of Air releases, this now places a closer second. |

65daysofstatic The Destruction of Small Ideas | 4.0 |
65dos submit a serious contender for album of the year, but even if their work in contrast to the work of others gets overshadowed, its still a damn good release.
What we have learned from "The Destruction of Small Ideas" is that:
a. A little more recognition has been good for this group
b. Vocals indeed enhance the music and do not take any bit away from it
c. Robb Jonze is a machine at drums and this work can be listened to just for that
This album will go on to be a cool part of this discography as it is both satisfying and still leaves even the most pedestrian of fans something in the future to anticipate. |

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists Living With the Living | 3.5 |
Air Pocket Symphony | 4.0 |
Probably the most difficult Air album to get right into, the guest vocalists and change of song structures might be a put off but if given enough time the soothing instrumentals and the haiku-inspired vocal tracks balance each other out and coexist. What is especially good about this is the musical expansion that has went into making this. It may seem like a pedestrian album but its the only thing they'll put out for another three years, give it time. |

The Knife - interesting lookin guys, and occasionally interesting music. What the band does well is make beats on the comp where most of their music is made, but this hurts them in the long run. This makes live shows hard to do and thus limits them. Dispite their limitations the album is solid. "Like a Pen" and "We Share our Mothers Health" are definetly highlights. |

While this wasnt expected to be such a hit, its in no way a dissappointment. Featuring more vocals than on usual Air albums (on 9 of the 10 songs) pays off with well written pop songs, but sort of fails with some outright stinkers (re: Tv Destroy). JB is a clever guy with some great beats but some of them sound like a 19 year old could've made it with some computer program. The Moog part of the music is intact and thats one of the highlight. Instances of actual guitar/bass didn't pan out so well. |

Y'know those Barbie Dolls how each year whatever company made them would give them new accesories to keep up with the times and change as to what the trend states? Thats just about the case with this band. Poor instrumentals pair with horrid lyrics may bring Hawthorne Heights record sales, but dollar cannot pay for artist credibility, a thing they lack. |

I don't know what went more wrong for this band. The fact that their 3478948 singles were not only widly played on the radio accross the U.S. and everywhere, but that they were no good to begin with. Way over-commercialized (which kinda killed the point) and without much displayed musical talent; Green Day appears to have "grown up" but there sure are a legion of people who would wish them some form of devolution |

Not a bad release on its own, but fails in light of the albums this band would go on to release. Three decent tracks ("You", "Creep", "Anyone Can Play Guitar") over a chorus of boring ones. At least Thom Yorke didn't try to rap or square dance, and the band would go on to evolve. |

What was hyped to be the next big indie band from England goes down in the same pitfalls as the others do. Uninteresting sound with very boring songs, helped out only by the catchy guitar on "Banquet". Not recommended. |

Ben Gibbard without much of a supporting cast, also a Ben Gibbard without much recognition or fans. Listen to him in his pre-DCFC/PS days as he sounds very opposite to those bands in the fact that there is no outlandish production that aplifies the noise he makes, instead these are different times of minimal production, as well as instrument usage. |

The album suffers from an unwillingness to change the overall gameplan (acoustic chords by David Roback, topped with the soft and smooth voice of Hope Sandoval) but the formula they use is one that works to success. Individual songs are hard to pick out, but when they can be spotted (Fade Into You which is the bands most successful song, Five String Symphony which is the best song on here, and Wasted which introduces the idea of electric guitar) it is good. |

What happens when video games, guitar solos, and the 80's combine and are interpreted by two average joes? The result is Pac-Man fever, an infectious collection of songs that each deal with different video games. While this may be considered a parody album and a gimmick, "Pac-Man Fever" is legitimately catchy, as well as "Ode to a Centipede" which has a neat solo. |

The songs were single and didn't build any type of flow, but darned if they weren't catchy and memorable. Nowadays Oasis are viewed as a joke, a group of 2 loud mouthed talentless hacks, I suppose in a way that makes Definitely Maybe better in the sense that is also contains a view of the band in their earliest days. Some of the tunes go on for too long and Married With Children pops up in a really awkward place, but the anthems of Slide Away, Rock and Roll Star, and Live Forever make this whole album worth giving a spin. |

R.E.M. Document | 4.5 |
Document, R.E.M.'s second best album behind Automatic For the People features a great leadoff song ("Finest Workshop"), a superb middle-of-the-album bookmark song ("End of the World.."), and even a Wire cover ("Strange"). Great songwriting and singing from Stipe make this album among their greatest. |
Morphine The Night | 4.5 |
Daft Punk Discovery | 4.5 |
the first 4 tracks alone make this effort a 4. Watching Interstella 5555 - the 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem will turn that rating into a 4.5. That movie was nuts, it had everything: weird, funny, slight homo-eroticism. I highly recommend if you like the album, to see the movie (its probably even better stoned). |

The Decemberists Castaways and Cutouts | 4.5 |
Easily their best album. One of those works where the first tracks seem to flow and work together perfectly. All of the Decemberists good traits are on display here: catchy songs, well penned lyrics, and one long but good song. |
Belle and Sebastian The Life Pursuit | 4.5 |
One of the best and most underrated albums of 06. The Life Pursuit. The "every song could be a single" type of writing in continued by Murdoch on this album. Vivid pop songs that have clever lyrics and dancability fill this album with the traditional slower more stipped down ones. |

MC5 Kick Out the Jams | 5.0 |
Revolution. Noise. One of the godfathers of punk explode and put their loud live show on display spanning eight tracks. From the memorable line of how its time to "KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHERFUCKER" to the experimental closer "Starship"; the Mc5 take a snapshot of a time of change for the motor city as well as the U.S. |
Bob Dylan Highway 61 Revisited | 5.0 |
Elliott Smith XO | 5.0 |
Easily Smith's best album. Superb compositions and brilliant lyrics line this piece. Elliott really breaks out and makes a name for himself with XO |

This album is like spilling the blood of a virgin at an alter. It is made with sure tender lovin' care and attention to detail, it makes perfectionists look like they have OCD! (Whatever that means!) |
