| I think the thing that I most want to comment on after looking through a handful of reviews of this album is people's lack of perspective. This is, after all, Sum 41. They're not going burst out of the woodwork with an instrumental prowess that rivals Colors or lyrical depth that challenges The Wild Hunt, but deliver us again their fun brand of teenage pop-punk. And that's precisely what this is to me, fun. I don't care what it makes someone think of my musical taste, I'm not afraid to reach back into my memory banks and experience some 4th grade nostalgia while listening to a few of the entertaining cuts off of this album. I may have developed a much more mature taste over time, but that doesn't mean I forgot what it was to be a kid blasting "Fat Lip" out of my CD player. |

| Besides some overproduced clean vocals which can at times interrupt the flow of the songs, this might be my favorite metalcore record to date. It can't be debated that the band hasn't improved in almost every aspect. The riffs are extremely well-developed, catchy, and show influence from other genres of metal. The solos fit the compositions of each song very well and are....awesome. Tim's screams are the best they have ever been, and even the cleans (though they are the major detractor) are better on TPR than on AOBU. Also, give them credit for mixing in the bass some on this album. |

The musicianship on this album shows that they've grown considerably, the guitar is simply at its best yet. Chris Adler is amazing as always, and some of his fills are near Ruin-worthy (go listen to the song NOW if you don't understand that reference). Though there is no "correct" way to do it, they dabbled in more melodic parts in the best way that I see fit, shown in The Passing, Grace, and Reclamation. The things that knock it down are some riffs that hang around for a little too long and a different scream that Randy attempts to use in some songs.
My favorite aspect is that I could definitely identify each of the songs on Wrath, I felt like Sacrament was too repetitive, toss up between this and Ashes of the Wake for best Lamb of God album |
