The thing I like about this album is although it's very self-indulgent and overly complex (two things that never really mattered to me) it's way more "fun" than their two earlier releases. De-Loused and Frances the Mute were incredibly somber albums. Amputecture has a much more adventurous, bombastic, soulful, and purposely over the top feel. My favorite tracks are Tetragrammaton, Viscera Eyes and Day of the Baphomets.Faraquet The View From This Tower4.0Circa Survive On Letting Go3.5Dalek Abandoned Language4.0Dalek Absence4.0The Mars Volta De-Loused in the Comatorium5.0 An intense mind trip... The Mars Volta got everything right on this album. The thing that really makes this album stand out from their later efforts is the mood it creates. Where Frances the Mute paints a dark picture through drawn out ambient soundscapes, De-Loused achieves the feeling of a dark, chaotic journey through brilliant songwriting and top-notch production. The Mars Volta will probably never create an album like this again. Though they have since made albums that exceed it musically, De-Loused in the Comatorium remains on its own as a great work of art.Radiohead In Rainbows3.0
