the songs "Wicked Wisdom" and "Energy Chasms" along make this a must have for metal, punk or black metal fans. fierce shredding abounds! |
Flying Lotus Los Angeles | 3.5 |
I liked this a lot at first, but on repeated listens it didn't quite live up to it's initial luster. The production is very flat, and overly loud. Some of the songs sound like sophomoric experiments, just throwing in cool sounding samples with non-reckless abandon. That said, it was a great introduction to this artist, and it's very unique and original, even if this has been done before. |

wow, it's surprising how bad this was compared to their original material. one of the biggest letdowns, it sounded like a really cool idea to hear them do more covers (in addition to the great Failure cover) |
Failure Fantastic Planet | 4.0 |
very good album! fantastic planet took a while to grow on me, considering how good 'magnified' was. but it's a "fantastic" album, recommended for a wide range of music fans. |

simply the best Pantera album. defines a generation with tracks liks fucking hostile and a new level not to mention mouth for war.or this love. the heaviest mainstream metal except maybe some of slayer |

another one of my favorite metal albums, this is just pure metal from start to finish. If you don't like this, you're probably not into metal |
Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral | 4.5 |
the most memorable album of this era imho. I saw this presented live in des moines and it was the shit with jim rose sideshow circus and an early version of marilyn manson opening |
Acid Bath When the Kite String Pops | 4.5 |
This is a classic metal album spanning all genres of metal. one of the first alt-metal bands that stayed true to the tradition. it's a shame this band only put out two albums |
Mr. Bungle Disco Volante | 4.5 |
this is one of the most inventive and re-interpretive cds in my collection, which is sort of a rare category but few bands pull this off. speed metal jazz sessions mix with supernatural film scores and avant garde jazz freakouts. made by a gradeschooler |
Down NOLA | 4.5 |
easily one of my favorite metal albums of all time, I'd give it a Classic rating except that their albums after this weren't so classic. and you know they can do better. |
Aphex Twin Richard D. James Album | 4.5 |
the mozart of the 20th century as some have said. this album is just raw fun poked at everyone. I can't really see why anyone wouldn't get this genius suite |
Ween The Mollusk | 4.5 |
Radiohead OK Computer | 4.5 |
Refused The Shape Of Punk To Come | 4.0 |
Clutch The Elephant Riders | 4.0 |
Gorguts Obscura | 4.5 |
it's near unlistenably bizarre heaviness it's only weak trait, this album is some of the best death metal I have ever heard. the drummer sounds like he is on infinite bpm and the guitars are giant sludgehammers of doom with high caliber rapid fire machine guns attached to them conjuring some sort of dark ritual |
Sigur Ros Agætis byrjun | 3.5 |
Queens of the Stone Age Rated R | 4.5 |
Radiohead Kid A | 4.0 |
Deftones White Pony | 4.0 |
Deltron 3030 Deltron 3030 | 4.5 |
one of the most original hiphop albums in my collection, this is both heady material and a fun listen. cinematic in scope, yet a good party album, del and dan are in top form. |
Godspeed You! Black Emperor Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven | 4.5 |
Opeth Blackwater Park | 4.5 |
Pinback Blue Screen Life | 4.5 |
this is some of the best pop music I've ever heard. much better than anything on the friggin radio at this time. pinback needs to be heard, if for nothing else, for the rhythms. |
Unwound Leaves Turn Inside You | 4.5 |
wow, this puts shivers into your spine at least one point during it's long playing time, over 2 discs or records. the cd does come out into a nice two folding double album. this is a very underrated record, since it didn't sound that much like some of their older material. but it's a very moving masterpiece of astounding poignance that it is not to be missed. |
Tool Lateralus | 4.5 |
This is the best Tool album, albeit it's not its most popular. This is Tool taking it to the next level with even more Floyd and King Crimson influences and turning the radio world on its head with extra long compositions that threw a chink into the armor of the clear channel dominion. |
Kayo Dot Choirs of the Eye | 3.5 |
Madvillain Madvillainy | 4.5 |
Clutch Blast Tyrant | 4.5 |
This is Clutch at its rip-roarin best, with superior production to boot. The best thing that Clutch has done since Pure Rock Fury |
The Offspring Complete Music Video Collection | 2.5 |
ISIS Panopticon | 4.0 |
spacious and elegant, this is one of the better Isis records (along with everything before it). few complaints here except that this would lead to a more complacent sound. |

what a stupid name for a band. this music is nothing special. I did like the rhythms quite a bit though. |
Coldplay Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends | 1.0 |
Jawbox For Your Own Special Sweetheart | 4.5 |
This was one of my favorite albums when it came out, I think I nearly wore out the tape. Savory is indeed an amazing song, and the rest of the album is very creative and distances the band from the rest of the dischord groups. very catchy but in their own way... I think this was a very influential album. |
Deathspell Omega Si Monvmentvm Reqvires Circvmspice | 4.0 |
Deathspell Omega Kenose | 4.0 |
Deathspell Omega Fas - Ite, Maledicti, In Ignem Aeternum | 3.5 |
Converge No Heroes | 4.0 |
This is probably my favorite Converge album, or at least tied with Jane Doe. The production is top notch and is one of the loudest things you'll ever hear. These guys know how to write a riff, there's no doubt about it. And they are unrelenting, the drummer sounds like he wants to bash in your skull nearly at all times. The main things that hold them back imo are the vocals being much too one dimensional, and they have a knack for drawing things out far too long on some songs. Other than that, this is one of the best releases the year it came out. |
Megadeth Rust in Peace | 5.0 |
simply unbelievable. mustaine is out of his mind on this, putting forth his best megadeth record by far. sure, there may be one or two tracks that aren't quite up to the rest of the offerings, but "Take No Prisoners" and "Holy Wars" would make this album classic regardless of what else was on there. simply one of the best metal albums of all time. |
John Coltrane Giant Steps | 4.5 |
one of my favorite jazz albums of all time. Coltrane puts forth one of his best efforts of his entire career, and is a good middle point between his more traditional earlier works and his later more avant garde stuff like 'ascension' |
Justice † | 3.0 |
I just like this album because of it's very unique sound. There's about 3 tracks that I'll listen to though... the rest I can do without |

Cute Is What We Aim For Rotation | 1.0 |
Miley Cyrus Breakout | 1.0 |
Nirvana In Utero | 4.0 |
Mastodon Blood Mountain | 4.0 |
this is by far mastodon's best album. it has both supremely heavy and technical moments, as well as psychedelia. I hope on the next one Brann Dailor lets it all loose, because I feel he is somewhat restrained on this... could have something to do with the production though. the album loses a few points too because the lyrics are pretty bad. But all in all, this is still one of my favorites. I think their next one will be their coup de grace |
The Mars Volta The Bedlam in Goliath | 4.0 |
Probably my least favorite Mars Volta record (I still love this record), the most exciting thing is the new drummer, Thomas Prigden. He's sort of a more rocking/hard hitting Zach Hill channeling a bit of Neal Peart. Also, it's quite possibly MV's noisiest album, but simultaneously most catchy. I would have liked the disc more if it weren't for Tourniquet Man, the worst song they've ever done imo. That said, my favorite songs on here are conjugal burns, cavalettas, ouroboros and metatron, the epic length mind melter on this one. Oh yeah, and that one song that was the first single was really cool too. I guess the main reason (other than I think all of their albums before this are pure genius, yes, even amputechture) that I don't like this one as much (I'd probably give it a superb) is the production is very tinny and overproduced. |
Meshuggah obZen | 4.0 |
Testament The Formation of Damnation | 3.5 |
Opeth Watershed | 3.5 |
Iron Maiden Live After Death (DVD) | 3.0 |
Amon Tobin Permutation | 4.0 |
this is my favorite jazzy sounding electronic record, well along with Flanger - Nuclear Jazz. It's awesome how all his albums have different sounds and feels, but still have his trademark chaotic drums all over them. This is the graphic for supermodified, however. |
Amon Tobin Supermodified | 4.5 |
This album is near perfect. I love some of the more mellow moments, and the really dark stuff is really cool as well. There's one or two tracks I could have done without, saving it from a perfect score, but there's no other album like this out there imo. Btw, the graphic for this on this website I think is actually the cover for permutation, not supermodified. |
Amon Tobin Foley Room | 4.0 |
I loved the idea behind this album, but was a little disappointed to find out he didn't exclusively just use the source recordings and threw in some other stuff... but it still worked really well and got the idea across. I didn't enjoy this quite as much as supermodified or permutation (maybe it's something about the obscure records he used), but this is still a daunting project and it had some very memorable moments. |
Portishead Third | 4.0 |
What a great comeback album. And to throw in a lot of avant garde stuff, and use actual instruments rather than samples, takes a lot of cajones for a band this big. This singing is as beautiful and as fragile as ever, if not more so. I give it excellent just for the tracks "Hunter", "Small", and "We Carry On" alone. everything else is good too, although Machine Gun gets old after a while. I even found myself singing along with Deep Water out of nowhere one day after I woke up. Who would have thought a ukelele song about melting ice caps could be so catchy. |
Nels Cline Destroy All Nels Cline | 4.5 |
chilling, mind blowing stuff! extremely original guitar mastery! utter chaos forming into subtle beauty. the only way to describe this would be to play it for you. |
Viktor Vaughn Vaudeville Villain | 4.0 |
just extremely inventive raps and production to be found here. heck, you might even like this if you don't like hiphop |
MF DOOM Operation: Doomsday | 4.5 |
Simply one of my favorite hiphop discs of all time! Doom's delivery is sort of in a drunken master style, and his tales of experience and wisdom are among the best in hiphop. Not to mention, I love the obscure samples and dusty production value. If you haven't heard Metal Face Doom, you haven't heard nuttn |
Rush Grace Under Pressure | 4.0 |
A very very amazing cd. One of the best "mainstream" albums of the 80s. Geddy tones it down a bit, but the compositions of these songs are damn near perfect! |
Rush Test for Echo | 3.5 |
good stuff! no, great stuff! this is a very tight record... there's some hits and misses on here, but I still think it's amazing to see these guys continue to be one of the only bands to last this long with the same 3 guys over 30 some years. |
Rush Snakes & Arrows | 3.5 |
I think that I am one of the few people that actually liked Vapor Trails more than this one. I was a little bit let down when this came out; but it's still Rush goddamnit, and these guys are the best. |
Yes Fragile | 4.5 |
This album is gold. One of my favorite springtime cds to bust out and listen to. It just has an organic feel about it, and it's Yes' best outing. Roundabout is probably one of the coolest things you'll hear on classic rock radio. What keeps this from a perfect rating imo is some of the noodly solos in between songs. but other than that, pure genius! |
Tool 10,000 Days | 3.5 |
While this is Tool's worst album, there's still a whole lot to like here. The production on this cd is friggin sweet. Maynard's vocals blend in with some kind of computer effects, Adam Jones' guitar has never sounded better, and of course the rhythm section is killing it as always. My main gripe is that there is a ton of filler on here, and that Lateralus was way better (half of this sounds like it's Lateralus b-sides) |
The Mars Volta De-Loused in the Comatorium | 5.0 |
Wow, what a unique, mind blowing epic of an album. Still probably their best album, although I love them all. Top notch musicianship, interesting, abstract storyline, etc. Just get it if you haven't already! |
Faith No More The Real Thing | 4.0 |
Mike Patton's major label debut is as exciting now as it was back then. Just a moving, adventurous disc. Sleeper song on here for me is The Morning After. Also love From Out of Nowhere and Zombie Eaters (as well as the Slayer tinged Surprise! Your Dead!) |
Faith No More Angel Dust | 5.0 |
Unbelievable. I remember listening this album in high school and feeling like I was possessed. The other half of the time, it scared the crap out of me. Seeing the song Caffeine performed on MTV in the early 90s was unbelievable. The band just seemed so disturbing, and the audience just stood around captivated and confused. Lots of depth to this album, it grows on you, it has a wide variety of different types of songs, and it just moves you. Everything you need for a classic. |
Radiohead Hail to the Thief | 4.0 |
one of my favorite radiohead albums. It has some of my favorite songs of theirs (and it has some of their worst ones). I really like Wolf at the Door. it always puts chills up and down my spine. |
Anata Under a Stone With No Inscription | 5.0 |
This album is perfect from start to finish. It's both mind numbingly complex yet is somehow really catchy. Hard to accomplish. Just like a lot of those riffs. Not to mention the drummer is a beast. What really puts it over the top for me is the absolutely juiced production value. It makes it sound like a classic. One of my favorite metal albums of all time. |
Rush Moving Pictures | 4.5 |
I gave this album a superb just for yyz alone. limelight is also one of my favorite rush songs; just a stellar outing for a very important band. |
DragonForce Ultra Beatdown | 2.5 |
Yay, they play really really well, virtuoso like even. But this is pure cheese. Not very original either. |
Don Caballero What Burns Never Returns | 4.0 |
Don Caballero Singles Breaking Up | 4.5 |
