October Falls The Womb of Primordial Nature | 4.0 |
The new full length album from October Falls is an excellent collaboration of highly atmospheric black metal and earthly like neo-folk music. Basically a more expanded version of their The Streams of The End EP. In the ever prescent folk sections no paino, strings, or flutes appear such as in Marras only layered acoustics and some nature ambience. The black metal parts are layered with two or three guitars and feature very stronge drum work supplied by M.Tarvonen from Moonsorrow, very few blastbeats which is a welcome change for this type of music. Only black metal rasps appear, they fit the music very well and the lyrics are in a league of their own talking about the loss of culture and the wrath of nature towards humanity. The album is one song broken up into four parts and plays for a little over thirty-eight minutes. If you liked releases such as Bergtatt, Two Hunters, or Pale Folklore I suggest you check this out. |

Daylight Dies No Reply | 4.0 |
This is the first Daylight Dies album, on this album there is a different vocalist (That sounds quite similar to the present one and Mr. Akerfeldt) and only one guitar player, other than than that line up is the same as on Dismantling Devotion. It sounds very similar to Dismantling Devotion just a little less developed, there are no clean vocals just a little bit of spoken vocals on the song In the Silence, and also no acoustic guitars, but plenty of clean guitar to make up for it. It has a great mix of soft heart felt moments, heavy parts as well very catchy riffs and arrangements. This is a great album and pretty much better than any other U.S. releases out there. I suggest getting this one first if getting into Daylight Dies because you'll think it's the best album ever and then you'll get Dismantling Devotion and go poo poo in your pants. It will be a good poop though that's for sure. Get this album and support one of the better U.S. bands out there! Or call me a fagot that has a horrible taste in music and then go sing along to dying in your arms and waste your money on the new As I Stand Living album, Either way I will still be enjoying this release for a very long time, and you will be missing out! |

This is a great death/doom metal album, especially if your just getting into doom. Every song on this album is top notch, it's filled with very depaired emotion. Aaron's vocal's are quite bleak through out, from screams to cleans they always add a lot to the music. Highly suggested for all the depressed ones out there. Standouts: The Dreadful Hours, The Raven and the Rose, My Hope the Destroyer. |
Daylight Dies Dismantling Devotion | 4.5 |
This album is very much in the same vein as Brave Murder Day by Katatonia. It's very melodic and catchy, the vocals are great and are both harsh and clean. If your looking for some good doom metal that won't bore give this a spin! Check out their video for Lies That Bind:
