A Day To Remember Homesick | 3.5 |
First off, I enjoyed this album. It has its highs and lows (and gang chants) but overall it’s a strong release to follow TTWHH. My only problem with this disc is that they tried to do tooooo much and/or cover all the musical bases. Look at the guest vocalists! You’ve got everything from Pop-Punk to Deathcore to Atreyu (“I'm Made of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made of?”). I’m convinced that song was a B-Side off of their latest album. Although, I did love “Welcome to the Family” with guest vocalist Vincent Bennett of the Acacia Strain Whatever the case, A Day to remember should stick to what they’re good at, Pop-Punk with a f***n’ heavy ass edge. That’s what differentiates them from the massive crowd of mediocrity. They haven’t sold out yet. Let’s hope to god that they don’t turn into the new Atreyu. If they sign to another label owned by Disney, you can expect another “Lead Sails Paper Anchor.” De, De, De, LET’S GO! |

I don't know how to completely explain it, but this album hits home on so many levels... Lyrically. Anberlin has been a guilty pleasure of mine for quite a while. I hope and pray they continue to make music forever! In reality, that will never happen but I'm "old enough to know but to young to care." I do care but that lyric from Haight St. just kills... so does the rest of the song and the album. |

I need some more time to take this album in. Although, I am excited to hear some heavy stuff again. PTH kinda blew, with the exception of a few tracks. By the way, if all of you miss Jimmy Ryan so much, go buy his new album! His band, Trenches, released a new album called "The Tide Will Swallow Us Whole" this past September. It's kinda metal. |
I Am Ghost Those We Leave Behind | 1.5 |
I have to admit that (much to my surprise) I really enjoyed I Am Ghost’s previous efforts: We Are Always Searching EP and Lover’s Requiem LP. That’s why I went out of my way to purchase their new album, Those We Leave Behind, the day it became available.
Whoops! I guess I should have known better. Lightning rarely strikes twice. I Am Ghost’s front man, Steven Juliano, said that the band would be getting back to their punk rock roots. Why did I actually believe him? I guess I am a trusting fool. Epitaph Records has recently signed Thursday, New Found Glory, Story of the Year, etc. All of those bands have the potential to put out amazing albums... I thought IAG did as well.
It’s my fault. I forgot why I liked their previous albums. Usually, I’m not a huge fan of female singers in Emo/Metal/Screamo bands (with the exception of Light This City). I Am Ghost is kind of flat without the vocal and violin work of Kerith Telestai. From what I know, she and her husband (Brian) left the band after Steven Juliano said f*** on stage. They started a new project (which isn’t that great) and now I Am Ghost has moved on without them.
Quick question... How can two members of a goth/rock band (who talk about vampires and death) quit the band because it’s not Christ like? Did you want IAG to be a Christian band? Steven said that you two claimed to be Christians. If you were strong in your faith, you would have not been a part of a goth/vamp band
The bottom line…
Listen to the album (if you have the chance) but don’t buy it unless you love I Am Ghost a whole lot.
I was a fan… Not anymore.

Talented guys but the song structure gets very repetitive. I felt like I had listened to the whole album after three tracks. Their sound resembles old school Secret Lives of the Freemasons, which I miss greatly. These guys are the definition of Emocore, which is kinda played out nowadays. Don't get me wrong. This album is still quite enjoyable. I look forward to seeing their future progression. |
