Addicted is a nice mix of traditional Devy sound (Addicted!, Universe in a Ball!) and obscenely catchy poppy songs (Bend it Like Bender!, The Way Home!). The album's sound overall is comparable to Accelerated Evolution, except much more melodic in general and very synth heavy. The female vocals, done by Anneke van Giersbergen are amazing and are used very generously throughout, giving the songs their final polish. The best example of her voice is in Hyperdrive!, a remake of the one off Ziltoid; Giersbergen's voice gives the song significantly more life compared to the original. Addicted is, without a doubt, Devin's best material in years, and is proof that Devin still has his magic touch. |

This album is probably the definition of the Japanese metal scene, no questions asked. This album is full of great speed metal, great power metal, and great ballads. It's so unfortunate that most music listeners will never ever hear this album, due to the rarity of this album. Orgasm and X are some great speed metal songs, and are great for head banging. Unfinished and Endless Rain sounds almost like typical 80s pop, but the piano and guitar solos really add to the song.s Unfortunately, there were some boring songs such as Celebration and Kurenai, which kinda drag the album down. The best songs on this album are the fast-flying double bass in Orgasm, the soft, melodic voicing in Endless Rain, and Rose Of Pain, a short epic which features a little bit of everything. |

This was Green Day's breakthrough album, and I'm not suprised one bit. Dookie shows that Green Day once had a high point in their career, with much better drumming than their recent work, very catchy basslines, and let's not forget the mindless but unique powerchords Billie Joe rips out on his guitar. This album also marks a milestone in the pop-punk genre, making this album one of the greatest pop-punk albums ever made; the cultural and socials influence of the album is undeniable! This was my very first CD, and I'm proud that it is. Standout traks include Welcome To Paradise and it's unique bass solo in the middle of the song, the mindless, enjoyable Basketcase, and the fast-paced Burnout. |

If there's an album I can be impressed with all the way through, Scenes From A Memory would be the one. Many songs on here prove to be among the best of Dream Theater's works, and those songs are very enjoyable with plenty of replay value. Another thing to point out is that it's a concept album, one done right for once. It's great that Dream Theater has had several great albums, but seriously, none of them can hold a candle to this masterpiece of an album. Standout tracks includes possibly the most complex metal song in existence, The Dance Of Eternity, Overture 1928, an outstanding instrumental song, and Beyond This Life, one of Dream Theater's better 10+ minute songs. |

The first time I've heard about Tool, I was really excited. I was told that it was one of the best progressive metal bands out there. I go and buy this and what do I get? An album that's opened up by a boring song (The Grudge). Thinking that it was a dud song, I listened to the rest of the album, and boy was I shocked. Every song on here is simply put, a bore fest. Why the hell is Tool called a metal band? More like alternate rock. In my eyes, you're suppost to enjoy music to its fullest extent, but with an album so dragging, long, pretentious etc, that is impossible. However, I was impressed with the drumming a lot, so it wasn't a complete waste. The only song I can say I really enjoyed is Ticks And Leeches (besides the boring part), due to it's aggressive drumming throughout the song. |

I have to point out the Land of the Dead is the greatest song ever created by mortal man. It's timeless, well composed yet simple, makes it's 13 minute length seem much shorter than is, and it contains more emotion than a feeble human mind could comprehend. Grown men will be in tears when they hear the song for the first time. You could listen to the song 5 hours straight and not get sick of it. Hell, I bet you could listen to it at least 500 hours. The other songs on this album are fantastic, too. Recommended for anyone interested in Atmospheric Black Metal. |

Outworld Outworld | 4.0 |
Outworld isn't just one of those average prog metal bands, like Dream Theater (their post Scenes From A Memory albums anyway). Their sound is very distinct; one of the heaviest power/prog bands in existence, even heavier than Symphony X's Paradise Lost. Most songs feature crushing riff fests, nice, smooth basslines, and constant double bass. And of course, the guitar work is top-notch. Rusty Cooley's solo album was a wank-fest, which worried me that this album would feature endless guitar solos, but I was pleasantly surprised that the guitar solos were used very conservatively throughout the album, and would generally feature very melodic approaches. Album highlights include the melodic-induced Riders, the slower, yet powerful Outworld, and the insane, ridiculous soloing in the Grey Tide. |
Opeth Watershed | 4.0 |
Opeth Blackwater Park | 5.0 |
Wow is all I can think of when I listen to this album. This is one album that is, simply put, undeniably impressive. Opeth certainly delivered a perfect metal album here, and it's perfection is undeniable, and i'm not even close to kidding either. Every single song is excellent; there isn't anything wrong with any of them. And to add to that, they all flow brilliantly together. The clean vocals are probably among the best voices i've heard in the world of music, the growling is fantastic, and the musicianship backs the vocals superbly. The lyrics are impressive too, seeing that most metal bands have pretty weak lyrics overall. Indeed, such an incredible album like this is very rare, so this is a must for anyone's album collection. Standout tracks include the well-composed Bleak, the wonderful, calm acoustic melodies of Harvest, and the brutal riffing in Blackwater Park. In fact, who cares about downloading those 3 songs, just buy the damn album because all the songs on here are just that great. Hell, I'd buy 3 more copies of this CD if I wasn't busy buying other album disographies. |

Metallica ...And Justice for All | 2.5 |
The first three Metallica albums are incrediblie albums. All of them have brought a new sound to the world of metal, and the songs for the most part are great. But then we have this ear-sore of an album "...And Justice For All". It's incredibly trebly; turning the bass all the way up and the treble all the down on my equalizer doesn't help at all. Not only that, but most of the songs on here are not worth listening to at all. The new bassist Jason Newstead is a disgrace to Metallica and their previous material, as he cannot come up with similar driving, creative basslines like Cliff did, though he is alright overall. Metallica did become more progressive with this release, but the attempt isn't very good. This is easily the worst album I ever bought, even though I like Metallica. This isn't even worth a buy unless you need every Metallica album ever made. Songs to download are One, To Live Is To Die and Dyers Eve. Nothing else! |
Meshuggah I | 3.5 |
This is my first Mesuggah album, and I was pleased, but not blown out of my chair. One 20 minute song for an album seems disappointing, but it's worth it, seeing that it's an EP. The riffing takes a more aggressive, crunchy approach than usual Thrash metal bands, which normally go for speed to achieve heaviness. The song is composed wonderfully; however, some parts are boring and I usually fast-forward to a different section; this happens a lot in the last third of the song. However, most of the song is heavy, and surprisingly catchy. Unfortunately, the same metalcorish-thrash vocals are present (it sound like the Shadows Fall vocalist, but with a little more grunt). A great buy if you're into extreme thrash metal. |

Fates Warning No Exit | 4.0 |
Fates Warning is a legendary band that pioneered progressive metal along with Queensrhyche and Dream Theater. This album is close to a classic, but it's a little weaker than Awaken The Guardian overall. The new vocalist, Ray Alder is a similar vocalist to John Arch. However, he lacks the power and energy John had put into his voice; Alder does seem to have more low-end range and versatility. The album is not produced as well as Awaken the Guardian either; the overall production is of lower quality, it's even softer volume-wise. Shades of Heavenly Death is also not as good as the other songs, but it is the heaviest. Recommended tracks are the epic Ivory Gate of Dreams, the fast-paced, catchy Anarchy Divine, and the slower In a Word. |

This album has clearly shown DragonForce has evolved from Valley of the Damned. The new drummer Dave Mackintosh shows much more proficency in blast beating than Didier has, bringing the "extreme" style of DragonForce to a new level. The band also recruits Adrian Lambert as a bassist, the best one they've ever had to date. The songs on the album are catchier than they were on Valley of the Damned, but there was also some songs that were, well, duds. Fields of Despair is just a plain bad song, and Prepare for War and Cry of the Brave aren't as catchy as the others. Otherwise, this album has had some great strong points. Soldiers of the Wasteland is pretty much an epic song, and is my favorite DragonForce song to date. This is the only song I felt Vadim was going almost all out on. Fury of the Storm has some crazy soloing going on, too. Once again, this is another DragonForce album worth buying. |

I'm going to be quite honest. I really tried to find a flaw with this album. I really did. My efforts were in vain, because simply put, there aren't any. Wonderful riffing, smooth fretless bass work, ethereal solos, calm vocals, etc. is all here. Made all the more impressive due to Cynic not being together for 14 years. This album is truly Traced in Air. |
