Radiohead OKNOTOK 1997-20175.0
Nickelback Feed the Machine5.0
The Dillinger Escape Plan could learn some lessons in mathcore from these guys.
Elder (USA-MA) Reflections of a Floating World3.5
Candlemass From the 13th Sun4.5
The spacey production and themes save this album from being just another Sabbath rip-off. Crushing space doom, anyone?
Smidley Smidley4.0
Wtf is a 'Smidley'? Wtf did this even come from? It's the freshest indie release of the year.
Falls of Rauros Vigilance Perennial3.5
Pallbearer Heartless3.5
Stolas Stolas3.0
Someone's been listening to too much At the Drive In and The Mars Volta.
Darkest Hour Godless Prophets and the Migrant Flora2.5
Our Hollow, Our Home Hartsick2.5
Overproduced, formulaic and predictable. Didn't everyone have enough of this saccharine bastard child of metalcore in the early 2000s?
Dreaming Dead Funeral Twilight3.5
If Death made a black metal album and Chuck was a woman.
Ulcerate Shrines of Paralysis2.5
I listen to a lot of death metal and this just bores me. Endless pummeling and white noise,
nothing catchy or interesting. Its only merit is its impressive technicality.
Opeth Sorceress2.5
Opeth are trying too hard to revive a dead genre that no one cares about.

The lyrics are also hilariously edgy and cringeworthy:

I am a sinner and I worship evil
Blood is thinner but you will never know
Can you confess that you thrive in chaos?
You're a sorceress and your eye is on the lost

If this was 2006 then young edgelords would be pasting that into their MySpace bios.
Sleep Dopesmoker5.0
David Brent Life on the Road5.0
Monumentomb Ritual Exhumation4.0
Messa Belfry4.0
Tribulation The Children of the Night4.0
This album reminds us that metal can be grim and still catchy as hell at the same time. A headbanging romp of black metal-infused retro rock, the only let down being the lack of vocal variation.
Vektor Terminal Redux3.0
Radiohead The Bends5.0
Radiohead OK Computer5.0
ISIS Oceanic4.5
ISIS Panopticon5.0
Agalloch The Mantle5.0
Kyuss Welcome to Sky Valley5.0
At the Drive-In Relationship of Command5.0
Black Tusk Pillars of Ash3.0
