The big revelation are the vocals. By far, the best they have ever done. Brent sounds sharp and confident in the title track and "Halloween". Meanwhile, Brann produces the best choruses the band has ever laid down in "The Motherload" and "Ember City". Troy really uses his voice to give a sense of urgency in "Feast Your Eyes" and first single "High Road". The closing track "Diamond at the Witch House", is a stunning epic that brings the album to a close, but not before the band takes you to a peak not seen since the Leviathan classic "Hearts Alive" or the top of Blood Mountain. Who knows if they will be able to perform it live and do it justice.rBut what is clear, is that this is the album that deserves some love from fans old and new. Overall, this is challenging at first, but with continued listening, Mastodon's newest hits hardest starting on the third or fourth time 'round.
