Kowloon Walled City Container Ships | 3.5 |
Twelve Foot Ninja Silent Machine | 3.5 |
A Life Once Lost Ecstatic Trance | 3.0 |
Opening the album with something awful was brilliant. Most tracks are in the same vein, but this album REALLY needed a stronger crescendo. All the tracks build up quite a bit, just not enough to satisfy completely. |
Between the Buried and Me The Parallax II: Future Sequence | 4.5 |
Hammock Departure Songs | 4.5 |
This or the Apocalypse Dead Years | 4.0 |
The first song on this album and A Damn Moment.... Holy shit. Agreed with the clean vocal
sections being sub-par. Rick's range as a screamer doesn't really justify the use of any
vocal melody. Leave that shit up to the guitarists. |
Monuments (UK) Gnosis | 4.5 |
Call me incredibly close-minded but I don't really understand how one can't love the guitar tone on this. It's the aural equivalent of a porterhouse. |
APOSTATE Against All Odds | 4.5 |
This EP is a lot to take in, and a dramatic change in sound from their debut EP Seaborne. The band traded a sizeable amount of technicality and sweepz for an Isis-like sense of crescendo and emotiveness. Not sure what to rate this yet. |
The Contortionist Intrinsic | 3.0 |

Lionheart Undisputed | 2.0 |
It's really an amazing thing that bands can keep releasing this album over and over and over. It's tough to tell if it's ignorance or just pure stupidity. |
Trioscapes Separate Realities | 4.5 |
Bermuda The Wandering | 3.0 |
Ermagerd look at this new volumes album! Not progressive, not death metal, jusdjent |
Cancer Bats Dead Set on Living | 3.5 |
Torche Harmonicraft | 4.0 |
Skyharbor Blinding White Noise: Illusion & Chaos | 3.5 |
Upon a Burning Body Red. White. Green. | 1.5 |
Holy shit this is bad. The previously redeeming factors for the band, the incredibly bouncy breakdowns and extreme vocal range, are almost completely absent in this album. The vocals have regressed into one-dimensional hardcore shouts and the lyrics are so bad that crazy vocal stylings would have been a very welcome addition. |
State Faults Desolate Peaks | 3.5 |
The Prestige Black Mouths | 4.0 |
Heavily under-appreciated band offering up a pretty excellent debut album. |
Stick to Your Guns Diamond | 2.5 |
Meshuggah Koloss | 4.5 |
Sharks No Gods | 4.0 |
I See Stars Digital Renegade | 1.0 |
Every Time I Die Ex Lives | 5.0 |
Why does everyone act like these guys are hugely successful assholes who are hellbent on selling out to shit influences? This band stands for everything Sputnik as a whole stands for, and this album should be nothing less than excellent. |
YGATM YGATM | 4.0 |

Foxy Shazam The Church of Rock and Roll | 4.5 |
Their best work since The Flamingo Trigger, it's just completely different. The transformation from alternative post-hardcore to soulful rock opera is 100% successful. |
Birds in Row Collected | 4.0 |
Loma Prieta I.V. | 3.5 |
Tharsis They Ominous Silence | 3.5 |
Concentrated human feeding operation is a beast of a track. Vocalist does sound kind of like Yorkie from Stray and the guitar work is similar but these guys are definitely sludgier and heavier. really really good stuff. |

It would be impossible for me to rate this after only one listen, but this album is absolutely packed with "Holy Shit" moments and sounds to be something truly exemplary. |

Not sure what everyone is complaining about, this is pretty cool. Then again all I was hoping for was something that sounded similar to the s/t. |
O'Brother Garden Window | 3.5 |
Uneven Structure Februus | 4.5 |
This blows away everything I have heard from this new wave of progressive-djent metal. I have a feeling this is what everyone was hoping for when TesseracT released One. |
The Bride President Rd | 4.0 |
This is definitely very good. Vocals are very reminiscent of Stray From the Path's Drew York, which is definitely a good thing. And the instrumentals maintain an uptempo hardcore feel throughout while alternating melodic hardcore style riffing and downtuned, djent sounding rhythms. |
Counterparts The Current Will Carry Us | 3.5 |
I'm not sure what isn't to love about this band, everything seems to have improved from Prophets, which in and of itself was a fantastic record, but the uber-melodic nature of this album won me over almost instantly. |
Close Your Eyes Empty Hands and Heavy Hearts | 3.5 |
This is soooo much better than their debut, which was remarkably average. This has some intensity and doesn't sound like the vocalist is 15 feet away yelling apathetically into the microphone. The melodic hardcore edge to this makes it quite a bit better even if it is riddled with clean singing. |

Chris Barretto is a fantastic vocalist, and this EP really just makes me wish he was still in Periphery. |

There's really a lot to like here. The guitar tone is awesome and incredibly dense. I see a lot of bitching about the piano/keyboard elements and the clean vocals. But it's kind of like on Chopped when a bunch of unwanted ingredients go into a blender and come out as something cohesive that really finishes the plate. Very satisfying, heavy-as-my-balls deathcore. |

The Browning Burn This World | 1.5 |
There is so little substance outside of synth beats on this album that it's hard to stomache. The vocals are AWFUL, the drumming and guitars are blended together in production for the sole purpose of performing 1st and 2nd fret palm mute chugs, and the lyrics... oh god the lyrics....rStanding on the edge is pretty cool for the first 20 seconds though. |
Century Red Giant | 4.0 |
Will be writing a review for this at the end of the week, but holy shit. Combines everything I'd ever want to hear from a metallic hardcore record. Nothing is contrived and everything just fits majestically. |
Stray from the Path Rising Sun | 4.0 |
Revocation Chaos of Forms | 3.5 |
Aegaeon Dissension | 3.5 |
This reminds me a lot of The Contortionist, just a little bit less good. The melodies on Reshaping the Multiverse and The Consumption of Everything are great building blocks for the band's future. |
Aliases Safer Than Reality | 2.5 |
TRC Bright Lights | 3.5 |
This isn't "great" musically or lyrically, but it just bleeds swagger and enthusiasm. A bunch of chav pricks made an album that is dripping in fun. |

Very interesting but doesn't hold up to long-term playing value. Best parts are when it sounds like Super Mario 64. |

The Crimson Armada Conviction | 1.0 |
Self-titled Attack Attack! meets Felony-era Emmure. Possibly the worst album released of
all time. |
August Burns Red Leveler | 2.5 |
After repeated listens, the word "superb" seems to define this album perfectly. Their most musically diverse album to date. |

Do you like 808's, uninspired guitar playing, guest vocal spots, and lyrics about killing humanity?! If yes, YOU WOULD LOVE THIS. |
