You're wrong to expect any action packed indie pop from Within and Without. It's a mood record for late summer nights, and gets the job done fairly well. 3 for the music. .5 for the awesome album art.

Half of this album is phenomenal. Young Hearts Spark Fire, Wet Hair, and Sovereignty capture the youthful energy of 90s emo and combine it with a thick guitar sound and frantic drumming. Unfortunately, most of the other songs do not hold this standard. They're still pretty good, but don't have that extra something.

The most accurate way to describe a full listen of MPP is like Alice's adventure in Wonderland. The listener is Alice and the album is Wonderland.

La Dispute Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair 4.0
One of the few instances when being overly theatrical and melodramatic is pulled off well. Instantly beautiful and hard hitting as well as creative and original. I only wish it was a bit shorter.

Jawbreaker at their rawest. Every song is frantic and beautifully written. The only drawback is the songs don't complement each other as they should, and may not be the most accessible. With more listens though, its an extremely solid album. Best Songs: Want, Fine Day, Incomplete, Down.

Bad Religion Suffer5.0
Bad Religion succeeds in balancing intensity and melody effortlessly. The entire album is interesting a never loses its strength.
Sonic Youth Daydream Nation5.0
Listening to Daydream Nation all the way through is like falling into a long dream. You fall asleep to the jangly guitars and soft whispers of Kim Gordon at the beginning of Teen Age Riot and wake up at the final grinding notes of Eliminator Jr. During this time, you escape from reality completely. Unaware of anything else, Sonic Youth is able to suck someone up and keep them in their musical landscape for an extended period of time. This is why it is my favorite album.

i'm coming clean, i'm rating this album without actually listening to every song. I don't need to though, the first 20 are so spectacular i dont even need the rest. but i guess i have them for when i'm ready. But seriously, these songs have huge grooves and huge heart, and that in itself is a accomplishment. D. Boon and Mike Watt did great things for punk.
