Mastodon Blood Mountain | 4.0 |
Well... 2006 was a good year for metal, there were some great releases, and this is probably the most outstanding of ´em all. Mastodon showed great musicianship skills since their first full-length release "Remission" and their second album "Leviathan" was awesome, 2 years later they released the great "Blood Mountain". This album is sonically a great experience and it´s over 50 minutes without a misplaced note. They combine their "sludgy" trademark style with their best riffs ever. This album contains the softest stuff they´ve ever made, as well as the most brutal, they also experienced more with clean vocals. "Capillarian Crest" shows what these guys can do, playing at odd time signatures, and flawlessly mixing their melodic and their sludgy side. "Colony of Birchmen" is another amazing song, they made an excellent use of clean vocals here, really an anthemic, "classical" rock song. "Hand of Stone" is a good example of mastodon´s amazing sound, with a great atmosphere, heavy, with cool clean vocals and an excelent thrashing outro. "Siberian Divide" is a softer, proggresive song, that shows how these guys master odd time signatures, this song warps u directly to an "ice field blanket land." This is definately a complete album and I´m pretty sure it will be seen as a "classic" rock album of the 00´s in a few years, it is an album everyone who cares about good music should hear. |

This album is excellent, it's not accessible to everyone, The Mars volta's experimentation takes different directions on each album, this album is their most complex, jazzy album to my opinion, I really really like it, but it's not my favorite the mars volta album... Lamb of God Sacrament | 3.5 |
When I heard Lamb of God for the first time, I was amazed by their original way of riffing, creating a very powerful post-thrash metal. Drummer Chris Adler is one of the best modern drummers. And this album came out along a fine generation of metal albums.
Sacrament is Lamb of God´s darkest album, and probably their most angry one (with lyrics like "I truly don´t give a f#ck about you, I never had and I never will, each day you breath is more time to kill)" but it´s a raging thrash-attack from start to finish, "Forgotten (Lost Angels)" is pure thrash metal, with kick ass riffs that reminds me of bands like Slayer, "Blacken the Cursed Sun" is an epic song, showing how lamb of god can craft metal like no other band can, and "Beating on Death´s Door" is an amazing closing song, angry, heavy and technical, with a somehow dramatic ending.
This album could easily be a new "Vulgar Display of Power" every single song has something interesting and aggressive at the same time, I think "Sacrament" will be a very influential album for new generations of metal bands |

Coal Chamber Dark Days | 3.0 |
Just listened to this album for the first time in a very long while. I remember this album being one of my favorite when I was 13, I can clearly see why though. This is not a very solid recording, but an incredibly catchy and groovy one. Almost every song is destined to stay quickly in your mind. And I can still have fun while rocking out to some tunes like "Fiend", "One Step", "Alienate Me", and "Beckoned". The lyrics suck ass, though... Really crappy lyrics. I think the goal behind those ridiculous lyrics is to be so ridiculous, you'll hardly forget them. |

Anyone Anyone | 4.5 |
This album really surprised me. Anyone's style is pretty impressive. Reminds me of Faith no More and Jane's Addiction. A criminally hidden Roadrunner Records gem, this album is certainly a really good listen. It's pretty much devoid of fillers, and that's amazing considering this album has 16 tacks. Truly, every song stands on its own with soaring riffs, unexpectedly tasteful solos, interesting rhythmic patterns, outstanding bass work and an energetic frontman who's voice is reminiscent of Andrew Wood (Mother Love Bone) and Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction). This album is something you must hear if you have any kind of appreciation towards the 90's alternative music and rock music in general. |

Cafe Tacuba Re | 5.0 |
Cafe Tacuba are an experimental folk rock band from Naucalpan, Mexico, thir music is hard to describe, very experimental and eclectic, but always loyal to their Mexican roots. Re (meaning the "D" note in solfege) was CT's second album, probably their best, this is definitely their creative pinnacle. This album is classic, I believe these guys are the only Mexican band that everybody should listen to.
This is an eclectic album, mixing Mexican folk music, alternative rock, and art rock, it's very fun to listen to, and there's a lot of variety in the music. Their music goes from fun to trippy in one second, I really like the way they experiment with different rhythms to create something well... different, fresh and unique. If you enjoy listening to folk influenced alternative albums, check this one out immediatly, it's really worth a listen. |
