2006
The Mars Volta Amputechture4.0
a very detailed review and a bit complicated, but I agree with what is being said. My only annoyance with what is otherwise a perfect album is how the band seem to use certain sections of their songs as jam sessions, that's basically what it sounds like anyway. Frusciante's playing seem s a bit OTT at times as well. Bah what the hell it's a great album.....
Strapping Young Lad The New Black4.0
Ghoul Splatterthrash4.5
Ah, what a fun album! A band that doesn't take theselves seriously and actually does the whole mixing grind with thrash well. Good fun to listen to in the car or when you're having beers with mates.
Cult of Luna Somewhere Along the Highway4.0
This album almost seems like Salvation pt. 2. There's a lot of idea carried over from that album to SATH. It's still quite original but I don't like the way the vocals have been nearly fully drowned out by the instruments this time around. Nevertheless a good album by a band that wipes the floor with most of these Neurosis-y type bands.
Jesu Silver4.0
Phobia Cruel3.5
Raunchy Death Pop Romance2.0
Okay, so the only other release I've got from these guys is Confucsion Bay, which isn't actually as bad , commercially ass-kissing and accessible as it may be. But this on the other hand, is just a cheap cash-in for the scene kids who want a bit of pinch harmonics, downtuned riffs and screaming/singing, call-response brainless songs a la BFMV and Atreyu.
DragonForce Inhuman Rampage1.0

2005
System of a Down Hypnotize1.0
Opeth Ghost Reveries4.5
Naglfar Pariah4.0
It's highly polished, over-the-top and probably turn away every black metal fan on Earth, but it's one of my fave black metal releases. I'd even go to say it's as good as Grand Declaration of War and 1349's stuff.
Darkane Layers of Lies4.5
Porcupine Tree Deadwing4.5
Excellent CD, this is the album that got me listening to progressive music and pulled me out of the shithole of nu-metal and bad radio rock that I was listening to. It's a bit heavier than their other albums but at the same time has a very calm feel to it.
Strapping Young Lad Alien4.5
This album takes parts from SYL and City and blends into one hell of a psycotic industrial metal stomper! Strapping Young Lad are awesome.
Comeback Kid Wake the Dead4.5
2004
Cult of Luna Salvation5.0
Meshuggah I4.5
Electric Wizard We Live3.5
Not the hugest fan of EW, but this is my fave album closely followed by Dopethrone. I like the fact that the music is a lot more focused and straightforward, yes still sludgy and doomy. Vocals are a bit annoying though.
Bad Religion The Empire Strikes First5.0
Cannibal Corpse The Wretched Spawn1.0
My Dying Bride Songs of Darkness, Words of Light5.0
Nasum Shift4.0
I'm no grind expert, But I have to say this beats every other grindcore album I've ever heard. And yes i have listened to Napalm Death, the rest of Nasum's discog, Frightmare, Phobia, and s tons of others.
The Butterfly Effect Begins Here4.5

2003
As I Lay Dying Frail Words Collapse3.5
Mogwai Happy Songs for Happy People4.0
This album is testament to the fact that you don't need vocals to make an album work, even though there are some effects laden vx in there. A beautiful, mellow album by a talented band.
Radiohead Hail to the Thief2.5
Metallica St. Anger1.0
Opeth Damnation4.5
Sepultura Roorback2.5
This is a step up from Nation, but Chaos AD, Arise and Beneath The Remains it ain't. It has some interesting moments, but I just feel it's too mainstream and commercial to be considered in the same league as .... well... Sepultura.

2002
Opeth Deliverance4.5
Absolutely amazing record.... the musicianship is topnotch, the songwriting is stellar and Akerfeldt's vocal performance is nothing short of astounding. My second favourite album behind Still Life
Dream Theater Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence3.5
I would have given this album a 4 or even a 5 on the strength of the first disc, The Great Debate is probably my favourite DT track and Misunderstood is an amazingly good ballad. The second disc just seems like a pile of boring pretentious crap to me..
ISIS Oceanic4.5
While it isn't as ambient and sonically interesting as Panopticon, I really enjoy this one. The soundscapes that this band is able to create is just breathtaking!

2001
Slipknot Iowa2.5
Arch Enemy Wages of Sin3.5

2000
Killswitch Engage Killswitch Engage3.0
Limp Bizkit Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water1.0

1999
Korn Issues1.0
Opeth Still Life4.5
One of my favourite metal albums, and definitely the best CD Opeth has released so far. Cmplex and brutal, yet gentle and melodic at the same time.... blending folk and metal, genius! The start of ''The Moor'' always gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
Megadeth Risk1.0
Sigur Ros Agætis byrjun5.0

1998
Bad Religion No Substance4.0
A lot of people believe this is their worst album, but I personally reckon No Substance is up there with Against The Grain and The Empire Strikes First in terms of quality.

1997
Dimmu Borgir Enthrone Darkness Triumphant4.5
Pennywise Full Circle3.5
Strapping Young Lad City5.0
This is one of my favourite albums of all time, without a doubt the finest industrial metal album of all time, and certainly one of my favourites. This has been on constant rotation in my CD player since I first got into metal about 4 years ago..

1995
Dream Theater A Change of Seasons2.5
Opeth Orchid4.0
Being a hugely obsessive and ignorant Opeth fan, I'd have easily given every song on this album much higher scores. This is my least favourite release by Opeth, but it is still to this day ahead of most death metal bands in terms of experimentation and forward-thinking songrwiriting. It's very basic compared to other albums but still has the same captivating effect as their other albums.
Strapping Young Lad Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing3.5
Probably my least favourite SYL album, but it still has very memorable moments and quirky parts that I love about the band.
Rammstein Herzeleid4.0

1992
Pantera Vulgar Display of Power4.5
One of my favourite albums of the 90's, along with Demanufacture and Still Life. This is their defining moment really, it was the perfect blend of aggression that they used in later albums and the melody of Cowboys From Hell. Not a bad song on there

1991
Sepultura Arise4.5

1990
Judas Priest Painkiller4.0

1989
Kreator Extreme Aggression3.5
Dream Theater When Dream and Day Unite1.5
Sepultura Beneath the Remains4.0
Not as good as Arise, but it's still classic thrash and better than anything that Slayer and a lot of their thrash contemporaries were able to produce at the time.

1987
Anthrax Among the Living4.5
One of my favourite thrash albums. ATL is chock full of awesome thrash riffage, catchy songwriting and songs that are both quite heavy and accessible at the same time. There isn't really a weak song on the album either, probably the best thing I've heard from these guys so far.

1986
Sepultura Morbid Visions3.0
I like the very raw sound of the songs on this album, it sounds a lot more primitive than any other Sepultura release. Max's vocals are a bit annoying at times on this one, especially when he keeps doing growls after every second or third riff.

1984
Metallica Ride the Lightning4.5
Well written review! This is my second favourite Metallica album, pretty obvious what the first one is going to be. The opening riff after the intro to 'Fight Fire With Fire' sounds face-rippingly fast and thrashing even today! I love ths album.

1981
Black Flag Damaged4.0

1973
Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon4.5

1972
Deep Purple Machine Head4.0

1970
Black Sabbath Paranoid4.5
