Jaden Smith Syre | 3.0 |
there are a lot of problems with this album. The rhyming is amateurish, the lyrics are often nutty and tone deaf, the beats are unfocused and Jaden wears almost all of his influences on his sleeve. That being said, this is alright and definitely makes me curious for what he'll do in the future. If he really focuses, I think he could drop an amazing project (btw the four part intro BLUE is fucking phenomenal. possibly the best album intro I've heard all year). |

Vince Staples Big Fish Theory | 3.5 |
There's a lot of great beats on this but I still feel like Vince is still coming into his own. His delivery and flow are leaving a lot to be desired. |
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard Murder Of The Universe | 4.5 |
Given more time this might be my favorite Gizzard album yet. |
Ex Eye Ex Eye | 4.5 |
Bones (USA-CA) NoRedeemingQualities | 4.5 |
One of his best projects yet. I think if he experimented a bit more with the beats, added a few
more guest spots (Danny Brown and Jon Simmons fucking killed it) and trimmed the album down we
could get something serious amazing from him. (Btw, wtf was that last song? Jaw dropping) |
Arcadea Arcadea | 2.0 |
This is obnoxious as fuck. The whole vibe of the album reads like "HEY LOOK GUYS! SYNTHS IN METAL!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOA" |
Young Thug BEAUTIFUL THUGGER GIRLS | 4.0 |
lyrics suck but the vibe is insane |
Lorde Melodrama | 4.5 |
Okay real talk. Lyrics are great but the actual music is lackluster. Seriously, I know she can
write great catchy hooks, I don't know where the hell they are?
EDIT: disregard all this. this album is great. |
Fleet Foxes Crack-Up | 4.5 |
SZA Ctrl | 5.0 |
Easy, easy 9/10. Best R&B album this year, calling it now (the first track will hit you like a ton of bricks). |
Katy Perry Witness | 2.0 |
Another Katy Perry album with god awful lyrics and flat vocals just with better production this time. |

meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh |
Amber Coffman City of No Reply | 3.0 |
Bleachers Gone Now | 3.5 |
A very slight sophomore slump. It's more free form than the first album. The thing that made Strange Desire so great was the tightness in the hooks and production. rP.S: Don't Take The Money and Let's Get Married are grade A tracks |
Dispatch America, Location 12 | 3.5 |
My mom used to play Dispatch all the time as a kid so listening to a new album by them is incredibly nostalgic. That being said, something feels off about this new release. It feels like they're trying too hard to make their songs have impact. |
Benjamin Booker Witness | 3.5 |
Interesting mix of influences on display but nothing really sticks. Decent enough album. |
Dua Lipa Dua Lipa | 4.0 |
Lil Yachty Teenage Emotions | 2.5 |
Meh it's alright. Some awful filler but I think the more straight forward pop songs fit Yachty well. They're so earnest and hilarious (Ex. Better and Bring It Back) |

Trippie Redd A Love Letter To You | 2.5 |
Machine Gun Kelly bloom | 2.0 |
I remember watching his XXL freshmen cypher thinking "man he's got some intensity and he's definitely spitting. gotta keep my eye on him." rNow he's the embarrassing college student who's hanging out with high school freshmen. |
Paramore After Laughter | 2.5 |
Can this "comeback album where we try a random 80's pop aesthetic" trend just die already? |
Zac Brown Band Welcome Home | 3.5 |
A decent return to form compared to 2015's mess of an album. While there's some good summer songs on here, it's far from their best. Nothing too special, only worth checking out if you've been a fan in the past. |
Harry Styles Harry Styles | 4.5 |
This debut is scary good. Harry has set the bar so unbelievably high for the other members that I don't think they can compete. His influences are clear yet he's able to craft a sound that's distinctly him. Can't wait to see what he does next. |
Logic Everybody | 2.5 |
At the Drive-In in•ter a•li•a | 3.0 |
Jesu/Sun Kil Moon 30 Seconds to the Decline of Planet Earth | 3.0 |

Enjoyable but if I'm being honest, this made me want to listen to Nails instead. Sorry. |
The Afghan Whigs In Spades | 3.5 |
Mac DeMarco This Old Dog | 4.0 |
In one ear and out the other. His music has always done nothing for me. |
Brother Ali All The Beauty In This Whole Life | 4.0 |
The balance of personal and political makes for a rejuvenated yet deeply familiar Brother Ali album. Def worth a listen if you're into indie hip hop. |
Chris Stapleton From A Room: Volume 1 | 4.0 |
Perfume Genius No Shape | 4.5 |
Slowdive Slowdive (LP) | 5.0 |
Sylvan Esso What Now | 3.0 |
Gorillaz Humanz | 3.5 |
Oh my gosh the last song shits the bed. We Got the Power was an okay song but in the context of the album, it undercuts the entire theme. Really disappointing because aside from a few drab songs, this album has a really cool concept. |
Feist Pleasure | 3.5 |
Cashmere Cat 9 | 3.5 |
Some really enjoyable moments but I couldn't get past the 3rd track the first couple listens because it made me want to go listen to SOPHIE instead. CC has lots of potential and connections to A-list features so maybe he'll impress more the next time. |
Mew Visuals | 4.5 |

Joey Badass ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$ | 3.0 |
Y U Don't Love Me rips off Kendrick so hard. Unfortunately, a lot of this record does. |
The Maine Lovely Little Lonely | 3.0 |
There's no reason I shouldn't like this band but every album is like listening to pop punk paint dry. |
Royal Thunder WICK | 3.0 |
Michelle Branch Hopeless Romantic | 3.5 |
K. Flay Every Where Is Some Where | 3.5 |
Wow this is actually pretty cool. Really good mix of indie pop and hip hop. Some of the tracks are lackluster but some of these songs bump. Champagne is such a banger. |
Ulver The Assassination of Julius Caesar | 4.5 |
Arca Arca | 4.5 |
I've always found Arca's albums to be beautiful in the most horrifying way possible but this is
the first album of his where the beauty is perfectly on display. "Fugaces" is what sold me. This
is his best work yet. |
Future Islands The Far Field | 5.0 |
Front Porch Step I Never Loved Before I Found You | 1.5 |
Musically and vocally, it's not the worst thing you'll ever hear but holy fuck this man has no self awareness. I liked his first album for the genuine depression on display but the fact this whole album is one massive "Woe is me" makes it a terrible listen. Seriously, I don't think I remember him saying "sorry" once. |
cupcakKe Queen Elizabitch | 2.5 |
Great voice, hilarious-yet-raunchy as hell lyrics but the production leaves so much to be desired. |
Kodak Black Painting Pictures | 3.0 |
eh. He's improving I'll give him that but WHY IS IT SO LOOOOOOOOOONG?!? |

Creeper Eternity, In Your Arms | 4.5 |
Drake More Life | 2.5 |
Better than Views (which isn't saying much) with better production and performances but the same shitty writing is all over this thing. It's only more tolerable because he actually tried with the dancehall elements (for example, I love the beat of Passionfruit. Some of my favorite Drake production). Also, it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. |
ANOHNI Paradise | 1.5 |
Anohni continues to make incredibly annoying politically driven music with no sense of self awareness. What's
new? |
Rick Ross Rather You Than Me | 3.0 |
HAHAHAAHAHAHAHA am I the only one who finds this album hilarious? |
Replacire Do Not Deviate | 3.0 |
Conor Oberst Salutations | 3.5 |
Pretty nice sister album to Ruminations. It's worth a listen if you're a fan of that record but I feel like the acoustic versions worked. |
Spoon Hot Thoughts | 4.5 |
Will come back and rate this later when I have more concrete feelings but gahdamn I'm loving this. This could be top 10 material.rEDIT: It is Top 10 material. |

One of the most skeletal, beautiful albums this year. Jesca Hoop only uses what shes needs. |
Moon Duo Occult Architecture Vol. 1 | 2.5 |
Big Sean I Decided. | 2.5 |
Production wise, this is Big Sean's best album to date. Unfortunately, this album still has the
corny punchlines and boring flows that make Big Sean albums tedious. When I first heard the lead
off single, Bounce Back, I was hoping Sean would finally take steps to become the rapper he's
capable of being. The end result is a forgettable, piss poor concept album that's only decent.
(This album also bites off Drake HARD) |

Pretty enjoyable record. Only real gripe is some of the tracks are a little too similar. |

Andy Black The Shadow Side | 2.5 |
The Shadow Side shows promise. Andy Black has one of the most distinct and enjoyable voices in the AP music realm, yet Black Veil Brides Achilles heel has always been the cringe filled lyrics. Unfortunately this problem bleeds into Andy's first solo effect. Voice is great, production is (overall) well executed but the lyrics drag this thing WAY down. |

Cringey as hell. Some of the lyrics on this project are so painfully bad I had to take my headphones out to collect myself before continuing. Sure, it sounds alright but this kind of minimalistic is so overdone at this point that you've heard all of this before and frankly, it's been done better. |
