I hate that I like the band since not writing your own music usually triggers an instant „nope, next please“ from
me but since Barone is basically an inofficial member of the band and I really like the hooks I can kinda deal with
it, even though their statement about Escamilla made them absolutely dislikable as people.

The album isn’t as good as Retrograde, which had a more cohesive style and theme to it that gave the sounds
and production a reason. Cover and lyrics, more often than not, tend to be cringy and you can’t ignore how
overproduced everything sounds. But overall most of the hooks and riffs are great and fun to listen to. I like it,
even if I don’t like liking it.

Crown the Empire Retrograde3.5
What a surprise! With their newest effort, Crown The Empire strikingly proves, that even risecore bands are able to step out of their comfortzone and deliver something enticingly fresh. The whole album shines with a cohesive, space-ambient style, while all tracks remain varied and keep their own identity. Instead of overloading everything with edm-sounds to blatantly shove us their intention of change into our faces, electronic effects are placed exactly where they belong and fit, never feeling inadequate. After such a successful venture beyond the sky, one can hardly imagine what should come next. But for now, let's just enjoy a little bit more of neat spacecore.

Rating refers to the twin version of the album, since the standard one is not available for streaming. But I believe the twin is better anyway.
PVRIS White Noise4.0
Mallory Knox Asymmetry3.5
Following the debut album Signals, the five guys from Mallory Knox live up to expectations with their sophomore release Asymmetry. All songs, except for maybe one, stand out from one another thanks to some experimentation here and there, or at least deliver catchy and also interesting refrains - which still resemble the greatest strength of this band. Another noteworthy aspect is a well done production, which brings a kind of clean sound to the instrumentation and results in an surprisingly well working contrast with the somewhat rough voice of singer Mikey Chapman. While not thoroughly innovative, there's widely enough identity to it so that you couldn't really ask for more from a record of this nature.

Flood of Red Throw4.5
Simplistic but atmospheric melodies form the underlying core of this albums songs, while at the same time, several, well implemented breaks that shift between them and rougher hitting sections, keep things interesting and occasionally build up into thrilling climaxes. The vocals fit in perfectly, being able to deliver both placid and soaring tones for the corresponding parts. This ambient record is one to sit or lay down while listening and absorb its haunting sounds, also suitable for a longer night drive in your car or when sitting in a train. Definitely something special and recommendable.
Framing Hanley The Sum of Who We Are4.0
I Divide Last One Standing4.0
This deserves so much more attention. Although the lyrics may not be that deep and the song structure is by no means groundbreaking most of the time, one can't deny the addicting catchiness flowing through a majority of the songs accompanied by some nice guitar riffs, virtually forcing you to relisten to this instrumentally very solid and, more than anything, absolutely fun, fast-paced rock record.
Chiodos Devil2.5
Seahaven Reverie Lagoon: Music For Escapism Only3.0
The Hotelier Home, Like NoPlace Is There4.5
At first listen this might seem unspectacular and far from innovative. In fact, from a solely instrumental standpoint, this is even true. While by no means bad and with a few interesting instances here and there, the melodies on their own wouldn't justify a rating like this. If you listen to a lot of bands from a similar genre, you could even argue how standard and repetitive it sounds. But after giving it one or two more spins and paying attention to the excellent lyrics while doing so, you notice how everything fits together in such a convincing manner, that one can't disregard the honesty, authenticity and emotion behind the music. The way it is being delivered to listeners makes this album worth your time and, while not musically outstanding from an 'objective' standpoint, sticks to ones mind as something truly special.

Such a wonderful album, failed in gaining popularity due to poor marketing. It could've made them as big as they deserve to be. It's the perfection of simple but catchy sing-along pop-punk with a lot of goosebump-moments. While You Me At Six are being praised by fans for their quite lazy and uninspired release Cavalier Youth, Kids In Glass Houses are breaking up this fall. What a shame...

This album shines with it's atmospheric tone throughout all of the songs, which is conveyed by the combined use of disortion and frequent tapping riffs. You can almost feel that these guys are from sweden since the whole record has some cold vibe to it, that, on some occasions, invites you to let your thoughts fly away and start dreaming while looking into the night when sitting in a bus or train. Although the formular with some tapping riff and the obligatory powerchord in the background repeats on almost every song, which is why this can't have a better rating, most of the tracks still feel distinct and deliver a couple of pretty epic moments, such as the ending of 'Hollywood Dreamin''. Also, the lyrics, while not cringeworthy, are fairly simple and sometimes feel like placeholder that exist so there's something to sing. But the aforementioned atmosphere and catchy songwriting with some stellar moments here and there still lift this up to be an excellent record. While this is their best release yet, the other LP's are definitely worth checking out as well.
