This is an under rated classic. So bleak, insecure and depressing, especially the tracks "Blue and Grey Shirt" and "Last Harbour". This album has lovely late 80's production. If you like Red House Painters, you should check out this album.

I can't believe that this album hasn't been reviewed. There are some outstanding songs on this album - Wishing Well, Dreaming I am, and Poison Years are some of the best songs Mould has ever recorded. If you are a fan of Husker Du, especially Candy Apple Grey, you will find this album very satisfying.

Brian Eno Another Green World5.0
Such a great record. 14 tracks, five with vocals. The album is perfectly balanced. The first of many great Eno albums. If you like David Bowie's album "Low", you will appreciate Another Green World.
Brian Eno Nerve Net3.5
I don't understand why people hate this album so much. I grant you, it isn't Brian's best, but I find myself playing it a lot more than some of his other more regarded albums. When this album came out in 1992, it was quite original - it is a strange Brian release, full of loopy beats and treated vocals. Fripp has a few great moments as well. Not a classic, but worth a listen. If you like "Drop", you should give "Nerve Net" a go.
Brian Eno The Shutov Assembly4.5
This is one of the most underrated Eno albums. A classic ambient album, solid from start to finish. I would definitely put this in my Top 10 Eno albums list. A must own for any ambient fan.
Brian Eno The Drop3.5
One of Eno's stranger releases - 16 short tracks and one 30 minute classic. Some of the 16 short tracks are pretty rough, but some are top notch, very similar to some of Music For Films, but more electronic. The long piece, "Iced World" lives up to its name, you feel like you are trapped in an icy wilderness. This track alone makes the album worthwhile.
Brian Eno I Dormienti3.0
I like this album, but my wife hates it so I don't play it as much as I would like. She dislikes the vocal snippets. It is an acquired taste and not one of Brian's best albums - a bit of a quickie release
Brian Eno January 07003: Bell Studies4.5
This is a wonderful release. Eno is one of the few artists that continually releases great albums decade after decade. The album starts with a 20 minute piece. I personally think that this track should be at the end of the album, so I usually skip it an start from track 3. The album has a bell feel, some of the pieces are very dark and done like while others are lighter and more bell like. It is a somber album, but I like to play it to go to sleep to.
Brian Eno Lightness: Music for the Marble Palace4.5
This is a fantastic release and very under rated. Two 30 minute pieces. It is the best of Eno's installation albums. For those who like Brian's longer ambient pieces, if you can find this album, get it.

Cabaret Voltaire The Conversation5.0
A mind blowing release! A quadruple LP release. The track "Project" is almost one hour long. A great electronic album that ranks with other 1994 electronic albums like Autechre "Amber" and Aphex Twin Ambient II. If you like those two artists, give this album a go
Cabaret Voltaire Plasticity3.5
Cabaret Voltaire The Covenant, The Sword and The Arm of The Lord4.0
Very underrated. It hasn't dated as well as Microphonies or Crackdown. Some of the keyboards sound very "Art of Noise". But the songs are strong - "I Want You" is a cracker of a single. The Cabs have also gone back to the found tapes, which is always a good thing
Cabaret Voltaire Micro-Phonies4.5
More commercial than Crackdown, but some great songs such as "Sensoria" and "James Brown". Overall a very solid and enjoyable release with a great cover
Cabaret Voltaire The Crackdown5.0
Initial LP releases came with a bonus 12". This is the release to own. The 12" is an electronic masterpiece - two of the tracks are very ambient. The main LP is also very good. Much more commercial and 80s sounding compared to their previous release (12 x 45). A dark electronic album
Cabaret Voltaire 2x455.0
A fantastic release. More two 12' than a full album (2 x 45 is an apt title). The first disc is the final recording with Watson, whose found tape sounds were so essential to their earlier releases. He doesn't disappoint on his final outing - Yashar has most probably Cabaret Voltaire's most famous found tape "There's 70 Billion people out there. Where are they hiding?" The second 12" is just as good. Could be Cabaret Voltaire's most "rock" album.
Cabaret Voltaire Red Mecca5.0
Often regarded as their best release. Not my very favourite, but in my top three for four Cab albums. A very well structured and cohesive album which has obviously had a lot of time and care put into the recording. Best played as a whole album.
Cabaret Voltaire The Voice of America5.0
Even better than their debut. Found tapes dominate the opening tracks. More structured than "Mix-up" but still very experimental. The stand out track is "Obsession"
Cabaret Voltaire Mix-Up5.0
What a debut! A collage of tape loops, keyboards, guitars, bass, vocals and percussion. Very experimental and has aged so well. Not an easy listen, but enjoyable all the same
Cabaret Voltaire Drinking Gasoline2.5
Cabaret Voltaire Three Mantras4.5
A very schizophrenic release. Western Mantra is one of the best tracks the Cabs every released: a 20 minute classic - a mix of Faust and punk. Simply awesome! However, the other side, Eastern Mantra is almost unlistenable - one of their worst tracks, with a backward tape loop repeating for 20 minutes and some noodling and random percussion thrown in. Still worth owning for the stunning Western side

Cabaret Voltaire The Original Sound of Sheffield '78/'824.0
Cabaret Voltaire The Living Legends5.0
Cabaret Voltaire Hai!4.0
A very good live album. Great sound quality and the band was on top form. One of my favourite live album releases
Cabaret Voltaire Body and Soul4.0
An under rated Cabaret Voltaire release. A massive improvement from their previous "Nasty" release. "Is this Real?" is a classic single!
Cabaret Voltaire International Language4.0
Cabaret Voltaire Groovy, Laidback and Nasty2.0
Why does this album exist? Such a disappointment. Their definite low point (with Code coming in a close second!)
Cabaret Voltaire Code2.0
Extremely commercial and band. A massive decline from their previous albums. If only this was their lowest point - that was a few years later

Can Soundtracks3.5
A very transitional album - two vocalists, Mooney and Suzuki. But the 17 minute classic "Mother Sky" that makes this album a must own. This was the beginning of a great run of Can albums featuring Suzuki.
Can Flow Motion3.0
The ten minute title track is the only listenable song on the album - such a funky groove. Can's last great track for me.

Fripp and Eno The Equatorial Stars5.0
An absolutely stunning release. Up there with the previous two Fripp/Eno albums, yet very different. This album is more ambient than the 70's releases. A great album to read to.
Fripp and Eno No Pussyfooting5.0
I can't imagine what the reaction to this album would have been like in 1973. It is so different than any release of its time (or any time really). Fripp would have to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time. This album is so experimental and weird, yet oddly listenable. The recent CD release has an extra disc with a half-speed version of "Heavenly Corporation" which makes a great 40 minute ambient piece. The bonus disc also has both tracks in reverse. Find this double CD and buy it.
Fripp and Eno Evening Star5.0
More structured than No Pussyfooting. Side one is five shorter pieces and side two is one ling piece - "An Index of Metals". Index of Metals is a very structured piece and is lovely, the best piece recorded by Fripp/Eno. A beautiful album.

A hardcore band releases a double concept album in 1984. A risky move, but they pulled it off. So many great songs, especially "Pink Turns to Blue" and "Never Talking to You". A must listen album.

This was the first album I ever bought, I had other albums but they were pilfered from my father's collection (Pink Floyd, Focus, and The Moody Blues - not much for a 11 year old!). Primitive Man has so many great tracks - "Great Southern Land", "Hey Little Girl", "Street Cafe" andr"Trojan Blue" especially. I loved the production and the fact that Iva Davis played all of the music. This album still holds up and is worth a listen. It is a real trip down memory lane for me. Another bonus - Iva didn't have his awful mullet at this stage.

One of the great Coltrane albums. The track "Ole" starts off with a killer bass riff. This album is a harder sound than "My Favourite Things" but I think that is what makes me go back to "Ole" on a regular basis. If you like Coltrane, get this album.

What an album! The first great electronic album - a massive four sides of vinyl. It is a raw and brutal electronic journey with moments of intense beauty. There is a section midway through side 3 that feels like a decent to the terrors of hell (and I'm an atheist). I have cleared out a few parties with this album. It is definitely an acquired taste.

Miles Davis Bitches Brew5.0
This is the album that got me into jazz. My brother borrowed this album and brought it home one day and after about two bars in, I knew that I had to own this album. The next day I jumped onto my Raleigh 20 and peddled into town to buy it - a very happy moment in my life discovering this album. And as a bonus, "Bitches Brew" is great introduction to the wonderful world of jazz fusion!
Miles Davis Get Up with It5.0
When I first heard this album I really disliked it. I was a big fan of Bitches Brew, On The Corner and Agharta, so I was looking forward to this album. It is so different from Miles's other fusion releases. A few years after my initial revulsion, I went back to this album and fell in love with it. "He Loved Him Madly", the first of the two side long pieces, is a stunner, almost ambient jazz. Another standout track is "Rated X" with its funky rhythms buried under loud dissonant organ chords played by Miles. This album requires time but it reaps rewards.

This is a very solid album, one of the Enz's better releases. Dirty Creature is a classic opening track. Other highlights: "Log Cabin Fever" and "Small World". "Six Months in a Leaky Boat" was a bit of a hit in its day.
Split Enz Mental Notes4.5
This is one of the great New Zealand albums. Full on progressive rock. Phil Judd's manic vocal style and lyrics are fantastic. If you like Gabriel's Genesis, you will enjoy this quirky release

This album is so under-rated. I guess because of the awful cover artwork - such horrible colours. There is only one bad track "Goat of the West", The album should be counted as one of the great goth albums - dark, dreary and depressing.

This album sounds like a follow-up to Slint's album "Spiderland" - and I mean this as a good thing. It is a more subdued album though with Brian whispering his ghostly stories and the band is as spooky as ever. If you like Slint, you should definitely try this out.

One of the great new wave albums. You could call this art-punk, but that sounds a bit wanky. I love the experimental side of this release. Great synth work and the jagged guitar sound is awesome.
Wire A Bell Is A Cup Until It Is Struck4.5
When I first got this record I played it every day for about six months. It drove everyone around me crazy I think. Is is such a catchy album with lovely late 80's slick production. I lent my LP to a friend and he never returned it. about 10 years later he borrowed my CD of the album and he hasn't returned that copy either!
