A lot of reviewers emphasize how sleek, sexy and seductive xx is supposed to be, but I don't see how anyone can find these lethargic grooves, monotonous riffs and self-consciously disaffected vocals entrancing in the slightest. Not only is it one of the most insufferably boring albums I've ever heard, it has to be one of the most artistically redundant as well. There's nothing here that Interpol, Minus the Bear, Tricky, My Bloody Valentine and any of the bands The xx has been casually namedropping haven't already done better, and their lyrics seem to confuse post-adolescent drama for romantic tension. And this is coming from someone who's supposed to be in their target demographic.
