AC/DC Back In Black | 4.0 |

Agalloch Ashes Against the Grain | 4.0 |
Agalloch Pale Folklore | 4.5 |
This album has set the standard for melodic black metal. Fusing different genres like black, folk, melodic and progressive metal, Agalloch has achieved a true masterpiece. Right now my area is getting pummeled an incredibly strong storm and I feel this album was made for just such occasions in human life. With a 360 degree scene of destruction and dismay songs like The Misshapen Stead and Dead Winter Days give the most eerie yet tranquil feelings when one walks outside to see all that he has lay in ruins. The atmosphere of the album is simply breath taking and, dare I say at some points, exceeds bands such as Opeth. Bottom line this album is at least worth looking into by any metal fan, the piano passages, melancholy guitars and dark atmosphere of this album is what any fan of Opeth or Katatonia will regret passing up. |

Black Tide Light From Above | 3.0 |
Im not gonna lie, Black Tide shows some massive potential. Their debut album, Light From Above, is a solid release and give a bit of a fresh breath into the metal scene. With mind sticking riffs and lightning fast solos Black Tide isn't your regular run of the mill debut band. The only draw back I feel these guys have is that they haven't found their own distinctive sound. There are influences of Metallica and Megadeth on songs such as Shockwave and obviously the cover Hit the Lights, and giving a listen to Warriors of Time it could be mistaken for a lost Iron Maiden track and Enterprise has a hint of power metal through the song, im one for diversity among an album but the songs shouldn't sound like something from the 80's metal scene. This is only a minor set back as the oldest member of the band is only 20 years old, so there is plenty of time for them to find a sound that suits them while making killer songs. |

Opeth Blackwater Park | 5.0 |
An essential Opeth album, Blackwater Park contains such amazing amount of musicianship, it will remain my favorite album off all time until I die, this im sure of. Blackwater Park has something for every metal head, those who favor brutality will enjoy The Leper Affinity and the title track, those who enjoy the more softer side of metal will have a field day with Patterns in the Ivy and Harvest.
Now this album wasn't my favorite on the first listen, I actually almost felt like throwing it out of my CD collection, but I decided to give it a more dedicated listen and....still nothing, though I did get into some of the songs more, I still didn't see why this album was garnering 5 star classic ratings from a majority of the people who rated it. It wasn't until I received the limited edition as a gift and gave it one more chance that I discovered that incredible amount of musicianship that was put into this masterpiece.
The dark atmosphere, brutal riffs, mind boggling solos, beautiful acoustic passages, all of these helped contribute to push my status of Opeth from an occasional mood band to a now most listened to and favorite band off all time. This album redefined the way I look and listen to music, I realize that some songs, albums, and bands take time and devotion to understand the sheer amazing bliss that a band possesses and that has lead me to never go a day without a spin of this record. |
