Above Aurora Path to Ruin | 3.5 |
This ended just when I was getting warmed up to it. Great listen nonetheless |

Abruptum The Satanist Tunes | 2.0 |
I like the raw stuff but besides being somewhat frightening I don't get anything out of it |
Abruptum The Evil E.P. | 3.0 |
Atonal to the extreme, hundreds of bands trying to do this nowadays but this remains a staple |
Abruptum Orchestra Of Dark | 3.0 |
This is so grim and seems so analog that it somehow feels from another era |
Abruptum De Profundis Mors Vas Cousumet | 2.5 |
Atmosphere is suffocating but does not fully drag me in |
Abruptum Evil Genius | 3.0 |
I am not really digging the 'songwritting' here but the atmosphere is indeed creepy and evil |
Abruptum Apostoli Infernum | 3.0 |
Short and sweet but nothing to write home about. Doesn't hold up well in repeat listens. |
Abruptum Hextum Galaem Zelog | 3.5 |
Enormously wierd , needs a lot of time to sink in, a very pleasantly inconfortabile listen |

Abysmal Grief Reveal Nothing... | 4.0 |
Excellent compilation showing the keyboard and organ heavy mastery of these super underatted doomsters. The only complaint I have is that generally compilations are not working for metal, it is better to hear out the original albums in the first place although these are previously unreleased or taken from singles or EPs. |
Abysmal Grief Funeral Cult of Personality | 3.5 |
I have no clue why this is not better known. A band that once again proved they are amongst the best doom bands out there. |
Abysmal Grief Mors Eleison | 4.0 |
Absolutely delicious, gorgeous riffs, unique atmosphere and an unreal vibe. |
Abysmal Grief We Lead the Procession | 3.5 |
Some amazingly delicious pieces of doom here, very organic, diverse and original. Some parts though seem to pointlessly meander. |
Abysmal Grief The Samhain Feast | 4.0 |
Let's get something straight: these guys can ?i no wrong. So creative, so refreshing, so enjoyable. |

Agalloch Tomorrow Will Never Come | 3.5 |
One piece is usual Agalloch magnificence. The other one is actually pointlessly overriden by some spoken voice. |

Antediluvian Watchers' Reign II | 4.0 |
At first I did find this too happy and sloppy. Inwas dead wrong, this is pummeling, inspired and very enjoyable |
Antediluvian Prehistorik Khaos | 3.5 |
This is mostly recorded in a rehersal environment so it's natural for it to sound the way it does but honestly I headbang to it all way through so I guess that's all that matters, right? |
Antediluvian Primeval Cyclical Catastrophism | 3.5 |
Pummeling, primal, relentless, having a low production level. |
Antediluvian Under Wing of Asael | 3.0 |
Filthy banger for sure but I would have liked it to be somewhat more eventful |
Antediluvian Revelations in Excrement | 3.5 |

Arckanum Första Trulen | 4.0 |
This is probably as analog as it gets. The whole feel of this takes you places. |
Arckanum Demo 1993 | 3.5 |
Mixed feelings on this. The production is quite scrambled but at least the drums sound well and the atmosphere is quite warm. Vocals are excelent, the norm for Arckanum |
Arckanum Trulen | 4.0 |
Very hard to get a demo better than this. It sounds great, the atmosphere is magical and the songwriting is top notch. |
Arckanum Boka Vm Kaos | 3.5 |
Beautiful black metal, relentless, warm, mystical and very enjoyable. |
Arckanum Kaos Svarta Mar | 3.5 |
Excelent songwriting in display but it feels a bit watered down and not as raw and vicious as what I would have expected it to be. |
Arckanum Antikosmos | 3.5 |
This is very surprising for me: first song feels industrial whilst the second one reminds me of early Slayer. Enjoyable, of course. |

This sounds to me more like Sepultura meets Burzum, enjoyable 5 minutes |
Asphyx Enter The Domain | 3.5 |
Some exceptional songwriting on display but still awaiting for some finetuning in order to reign supreme |
Atavisma The Chthonic Rituals | 3.5 |

Batushka Panihida | 3.5 |
Bell Witch Mirror Reaper | 3.5 |
Extremely slow, building emotion like a spider net, a truly amazing journey within your inner depths. |
Bell Witch Four Phantoms | 3.5 |
I have gone through many reviews of this and I can conclude there are no perfect words to describe this. My go at it: this is an intense experience, keeping the listener very attentive whilst variating from flying amongst clouds to nailing down to the ground with immense force. |
Bell Witch Longing | 3.5 |
Just imagine being in or around that building and hearing this play.r |
Bell Witch Bell Witch Demo 2011 | 3.5 |
I rarely saw demos in the metal realm that are more accessible than the full lengths. This is really where to start in order to get into this band, a more accessible version of the goodies that came after it. |

Blut Aus Nord What Once Was...Liber III | 2.5 |
Good sound but it meandours without a destination. I don't enjoy all that much the trip itself either. |
Blut Aus Nord In The Mist [Demo] | 2.5 |
Humble beginnings, doesn't do much to me, run
to the mill black metal. |
Blut Aus Nord Yggdrasil [Demo] | 2.5 |
I quite like the muffled production and the keyboard but I cannot add too many other things to my liking on this. |
Blut Aus Nord Thematic Emanation of Archetypal Multiplicity | 2.5 |
Ambiental and maintaining a rather flat rythm, nice listen but nothing more. |
Blut Aus Nord What Once Was... Liber I | 3.5 |
Heavy, punchy, very enjoyable blast of black metal. |
Blut Aus Nord What Once Was... Liber II | 3.0 |
Some cosmic vibes circling around a not so creative output from the masters. |
Blut Aus Nord Hallucinogen | 4.5 |
A truly beautiful atmospheric black metal piece of art. Everything is set up in a way that is entrancing and soothing at the same time. |
Blut Aus Nord Debemur MoRTi | 3.5 |
Enjoyable ritualistic stuff, love the drums here, very innovative. |
Blut Aus Nord Deus Salutis Meae | 4.5 |
What an epic journey. Very diverse. Catchy and super interesting. |
Blut Aus Nord Memoria Vetusta III - Saturnian Poetry | 3.0 |
This does not flow exceptionally well
for me. I have mixed feelings on the
drum sound and the harsh vocals do not
blend well enough whilst the cleans are
great. |
Blut Aus Nord Triunity | 4.5 |
A masterpiece, dissonant, having masterful production that sounds simply delicious and simply so original and creative that it leaves the listener speachless. |
Blut Aus Nord 777 - Cosmosophy | 4.5 |
This is so beautiful. It really cures all pain and sadness, in case you got any. |
Blut Aus Nord 777 - The Desanctification | 4.0 |
Getting so many dreamy vibes from this one, could be even more mesmerizing without the industrial tones present at times. |
Blut Aus Nord 777 - Sect(s) | 3.0 |
Probably the one album that is most alike DsO. BAU's better ones though are the ones that sound like themselves. r |
Blut Aus Nord Memoria Vetusta II - Dialogue With The Stars | 3.5 |
A meditative passage through all depth of the soul. Really powerful. |
Blut Aus Nord Odinist: The Destruction of Reason by Illumination | 3.0 |
Not sure what is with this one. I am not really feeling this, feels thin and uninspired. |
Blut Aus Nord MoRT | 3.0 |
Really weird and interesting, but would not pick this up too often. |
Blut Aus Nord The Work Which Transforms God | 3.5 |
Probably their most straightforward black metal album although it has some atmosphere and doom incorporated. |
Blut Aus Nord The Mystical Beast of Rebellion | 3.5 |
Melodic dissonance hovers over hateful vocals, wonderful stuff. |
Blut Aus Nord Memoria Vetusta I - Fathers Of The Icy Ages | 4.0 |
Lovely melodies, a sound that cannot be replicated nowadays with its mystique and dread. |
Blut Aus Nord Ultima Thulee | 4.5 |
A timeless gem, so unique, so organic, so harsh and beautiful. |
Blut Aus Nord Disharmonium - Undreamable Abysses | 3.5 |
A very good album but the hooks are not working as well for me as their previous works |
Blut Aus Nord Lovecraftian Echoes | 3.5 |
Blut Aus Nord delibers another quality stab of hellish disonance |
Blut Aus Nord Decorporation ... | 3.5 |
Blut Aus Nord Dissociated Human Junction | 3.5 |
Blut Aus Nord Disharmonium – Nahab | 4.0 |
Body Void Ruins | 3.5 |
Reminds me a lot of The Body, mainly due to (quite unexpectedly) the vocals (they even look a bit alike, maybe with some Barney Greenway appearance mixed up in between). Very intense, crushing and diverse in terms of tempos and flow. |
Body Void Bury Me Beneath This Rotting Earth | 3.5 |
Slow and punishing, a constant wall of sound with massive riffs wrapped around truly despaired vocals |
Body Void Atrocity Machine | 3.5 |
Body Void I Live Inside A Burning House | 4.0 |
Absolutely immense , excellent dinamics and atmosphere, very catchy and immersive.r |
Body Void You Will Know The Fear You Forced Upon Us | 3.5 |
I have put this on like a go to sleep upon the first listen. Did not work. I started slowly headbanging in the middle of the might. Slow , well crafted doom with punchy and/or pinchy vocals that are just so good. Very well constructed lava flows topping one another under the foggy atmosphere. There are as well some fast paced for the stone showers fans. |
Body Void Burn the Homes of Those Who Seek to Control Our Bo | 3.5 |
This is incredibly dense, desperate and crushing. Don't listen to this whilst reading a suspense novel. Just sayin' |

Bongripper Meat Ditch | 4.0 |
This sounds so different, tribal, pulsating, quite scary actually. Love it |
Bongripper Glaciers | 2.5 |
Pure ambient. Feels like a Darkspace intro that drags on too long. |
Bongripper Sex Tape/ Snuff Film | 4.0 |
Some of the better Bongripper songs on this one although uncharacteristically features many tempo changes and twists. |
Bongripper Fisting | 3.5 |
Starts with boring ambient - a genre Bongripper should really stay away from. Continues with a boring generic riff that overatays its welcome. And then it transforms into a masterpiece with amazing riffs, twists and atmosphere. |

Burzum Demo II | 2.5 |
Some of the best songs ever with the worst production possible (and not in a good way) |
Burzum Anthology | 3.5 |
Amazing songs of course but I do not think it makes too much sense to have them together like this |
Burzum Anthology 2002 | 3.5 |
Better selection of songs than in the other one but it still feels wrong to mash songs like this. |
Burzum Draugen - Rarities | 3.5 |
A piece of history and of course amazing songs. The problem is that the first Burzum albums have bad production quality to the point that it sounds amazing and it is truly enjoyable. Worst quality passes the line and is no longer enjoyable. |
Burzum Unreleased Material 1988-1994 | 3.5 |
Lovely both historically speaking but as well the riffing and the atmosphere are pretty sweet (in an evil sense of course). |
Burzum Demo I | 3.5 |
There is no logical reason to listen to this instead of the full lengths. Good thing we are not always logical. |
Burzum Svarte Dauen | 4.0 |
This is perfection in terms of getting the rawness sweet spot. It sounds quite insane, I love it |
Burzum Et Hvitt Lys Over Skogen | 4.0 |
Unreleased track but it borrows a lot from released tracks. Very well done nonetheless, full of emotion and with great riffing. |
Burzum Balders Død (Dauði Baldrs demo) | 4.5 |
I am of course biased and wierd to have Daudi Baldrs as one of my favorite albums ever. This sounds great and shockingly I even find the tehno pieces very original and enjoyable. |

Cardinals Folly Defying The Righteous Way | 4.5 |
Such a beauty, mistique to the latest glimpse of soul, needs to be approached with an openmind. |
Cardinals Folly Heretic's Hangover | 3.5 |
Excellent career start. Very interesting vocals coupled with eerie production and strong riffage. |
Cardinals Folly Orthodox Faces | 4.0 |
Short and sweet. Tempo variety handled magnificently, sound production is perfect. It feels at times like doom metal vibed riffs under a thrash rythm. |

Good doom, hits all the right spots but fails to shine in any of them. |

Count Raven Demo '89 | 3.0 |
Well, first demo is normally having quite some flaws. This one too, annoying production and lyrics mainly. Greatness was yet to come but showing signs already, creative stuff. |
Count Raven Storm Warning | 3.5 |
Delicious vocals with really good trad doom wrapped around. Annoyed by a good portion of the lyrics though. |
Count Raven Destruction Of The Void | 4.0 |
Needs multiple listens to really feel the vibe. This is top quality. So so well done. |
Count Raven High On Infinity | 4.5 |
Although you can feel Ozzy sings on this at times it is done so well and so varied that it surely counts as a big plus. Drums sound as well so good and are following truly creative patterns. Guitars are a mix of crunchy and melodic. Really superb stuff. |
Count Raven Messiah Of Confusion | 4.0 |
The sound works well with the dinamic ranges that are aimed for. Vocals are the icing on the cake. |
Count Raven Mammons War | 3.5 |
Great doom with quite a lot of emphasis on atmosphere. |

Intense, repetitive, truly frightening, there are some truly bone chilling moments in here. |
Darkspace Dark Space III | 3.0 |

Daudi From the Void | 4.0 |
Not really impressed by any particular instrument taken separately but they make an excellent blend together. Some highlights include: incredible mix of the drumming with a sort of a thunder reverb (my interpretation of this) I don't think I heard before, the absolutely unique vocals and the production that is organic, foresty and grandiose at the same time. |
Daudi Landvættir | 3.0 |
Despite the short length it has lots of variation: doom , ambient, black and some sort of a viking like take on Uriah Heep. |
Daudi Hel's Gate | 3.0 |
I think they hurried a bit with this second one, a step down in quality versus the debut, especially on the vocal side. |

Such fitting artwork for such a demented song, a real journey into the depths of obscurity. Flows so well.. |
Deathspell Omega Mass Grave Aesthetics | 3.5 |
Very chaotic as usual, it is harsher than the DsO norm although has quite some jazzy parts as well. It also gives you (like the DsO norm) the feeling you falling into the abyss. |
Deathspell Omega Diabolus Absconditus/Mass Grave Aestheti | 3.5 |
Hypnotic, atmospheric and downright creepy. Guitar work is very special here, really slow and spooky. |
Deathspell Omega Kenose | 4.0 |

Basic only on the surface, many subtle notes and progressions throughout. Works well as background but also as immersive dirge of proud misanthrophy. |
Divide And Dissolve Abomination | 3.5 |
I really did not expect this to be any good but it is super diverse and immersive, great album. |
Divide And Dissolve Gas Lit | 3.5 |
Very catchy drone if you accept there can be such a thing, interesting instrumentation, hyptnoptic parts. What else would one need? And also, 2 ladies form the band. |

Dohlmen Dohlmen | 4.0 |
This shines due to its high level of originality in a genre spectre that is littered by samey outputs. Just scratching the surface: the tempo variety is huge, the vocals are so different between songs that I cannot even think of one other band that goes for this, not to mention the language used in Sardinian, didn't even know that's a thing. |

Punishing death doom with low tuned guitars and insane gutturals. Nothing you have not heard before but definitely well produced and executed. A filthy banger! |
Draug (USA-MS) Corruption Within the Catacombs | 4.0 |
This would have been hyped if released some 5-6 years later when everyone was ready to take on the cavemen. |
Draug (USA-MS) Draug | 3.0 |
Raw, fuzzed out death metal with insane drumming. Many nice hooks and solid riffing beneath the madness. |
Draug (USA-MS) Ashen Heart | 2.5 |
Only thing that stands out here is the drumming, everything else is just too muffled despite the very good control of the time shifts. Big step down from the quality of the 2013 LP. |
Draug (USA-MS) Ephemeral Utopia | 3.0 |
A bit of a run to the mill cavernous death metal. Enjoyable but miles away from the quality of their LPs. |

I have hit play on this with close to no expectations. I found uniqueness, creativity, atmosphere and all the slow headbangable riffs that stoner usually brings to the table. The make it or break it elements are though the guitar tone and the vocals, which I both just love. |

Underwhelming , kind of too 'modern' and
generic sounding. |
Forming the Void Skyward | 4.5 |
This would have been stellar as instrumental. rAdding some of the best vocals out there make me be all over this.r |
Forming the Void Relic | 4.0 |
Seemingly generic but the sheer quantity and talent destroy that perception. |
Forming the Void Rift | 4.0 |
Engaging doom with very powerful vocals. Some of this is on par with Sleep and I guess there is no need to say anything else.r |
Forming the Void Reverie | 3.5 |
Interesting mix of styles, I really enjoy it although I feel this is the least stellar full length so far from these guys. |
Forn Rites of Despair | 3.0 |
Good atmosphere, very good balancing of melody and aggression but this could have been so much more than that with a better songwriting. |
Forn The Departure of Consciousness | 3.0 |
Good doom with some interesting dissonance interwined. Snail paced with a good raw punch and massive barrages of riffs. Still, I had trouble in fully embracing it and in maintaining the engagement throughout. |

High on Fire Art of Self-Defense | 4.0 |
This is definitely more on fire than high. Very ferocious for a stoner flag holder, feels like a mean machine is after you and you have no way out. Huge props for achieving this with neat riffs and a warm, round atmosphere and sound. I like the variety on the vocal side as well. |
High on Fire Surrounded by Thieves | 4.0 |
Very heavy stoner, very far away from Sleep in terms of agressivenes and not only. Not worse, just different. |
High on Fire Blessed Black Wings | 4.0 |
well...as ironic as it sounds this might turn me into Motorhead.. heavy, old school, excellent, I love the overall sound with the fat guitars, those cymbals are great and what can one ask for more in terms of vocals. It feels so organic that one could take it for a live album quite easily. Oh yes, as well, involuntary almost continuous headbanging is guaranteed. |
High on Fire Death Is This Communion | 4.0 |
I am calling most metal albums generic, well, they are...I have a very hard time explaining why this is not at all generic given that on paper it does not have something special; on the contrary, this is brilliant, very engaging, I love it. It feels like the Champions League, some of goals seem so simply built that anyone could potentially do it but in fact you need huge player and team quality to pull it off. Same with this album, it all feels just naturally right. One thing I do see strange, I feel that vocals are not used as much as on other albums, even leaving out the interludes . Is it a calculated scheme to make us crave for more and more..Last thing, I would give this an even higher rating if it wasn't for 'Ethereal', only 7 minutes in the album slightly underwhelming. |
High on Fire Snakes for the Divine | 3.5 |
This might get 'the worst soundoff prize' despite the massive competition but: to me part of this sounds like Maiden meets Kreator which is not bad per se but is below what hof offers in general. Also gets slower than the hof norm at times, interesting, not necessarily working well though. |
High on Fire De Vermis Mysteriis | 4.5 |
Best Pike vocals on display on this album. The production seems more claustrophobic than the previous albums which I can dig, especially that the bass is so round and fat.r |
High on Fire Luminiferous | 3.5 |
Very enjoyable listen, flows very well, vocals sound as great as usual for hof. |

Vibes come from all over the place, we need to start with Reverend bizarre, let's continue with the Ramesses crushiness , the eeriness Alice in Chains puts to the table and the vocals that have an Ozzy vibe. Despite all these this is very unique and really special. Heaviest trad doom I have heard. Yet, so full of emotions, I almost cried once I first listened the opening track, but of course I didn't because I am tough metalhead Coming back to the vocals, there are some amazing vocal parts in but also some that feel a bit cringy. Maybe it's as well due to the lyrics that are a bit hit and miss for me. |
Lord Vicar The Demon of Freedom | 3.5 |
Nice, slow and melodic. The lord was showing class from its first step. |
Lord Vicar Fear No Pain | 4.0 |
Crunchy, fat, warm production wrapping up doom mastery in the Sabbath, Reverend bizarre vein. Vocals are truly special and giving the uniqueness to the emotive, catch vibe. At a superficial listen this sounds run to the mill doom but the sheer quality, although subtle, is downright excellent. |
Lord Vicar Signs of Osiris | 4.0 |
Such classy trad doom. An untrained ear could confuse this with Sabbath and I am saying this as a compliment. A trained ear would feel more of a Reverend Bizarre in the instrumental work - which might be a boring and predictable thing to say from my side. |

their warmest so far, very crushing and good just not bone chilling |
Mizmor Yodh | 4.5 |
struggled a lot to get passed the first scream. I am into extreme vocals but that was just to intense. But I insisted and now it works like a charm. Crushing, bone chilling, fat sound. Very unique. |
Mizmor Yodh - Live at Roadburn 2018 | 4.5 |
it's basically Yodh live. I am amazed how this can sound even scarier than the studio album version. Excellent musicianship, love the full, clear but NOT polished. Instead, what we have here is a rather organic sound. A live album that feels so live. |
Mizmor This Unabating Wakefulness | 4.0 |
starts with a long beautiful intro. Of course this gets one very worried about what's next given what Mizmor usually turns into: that is a beast that destroy your brains (in a good way of course). The intro is 7 minutes long but remains interesting as it is spiced up with beautiful chants and a series of undertone melodies that flow beautifully and threatening at the same time. Post the intro we have extreme ferocity, great sounding at top speed initially, doomier and more toned down towards the end. |
Mizmor Untitled Winter | 3.5 |
this announces Yodh is onwards to drop upon this grim world. The form is closer to funeral doom but the feeling is the same |
Mizmor Mishlei | 3.5 |
cool compilation with stuff from one of the EPs and 3 splits. Works very well as a cohesive ansemble as the songs were written (or at least put out) in just 3 years. |
Mizmor מזמור | 3.0 |
oh boy, the production here is harsher than most raw black metal. A bit of a torture to get through the ear piercing soundscape and vocals and the quite acclaimed 'II' with its extensive slow, atmospheric intro. But as per the rating, I somehow still quite like it, probably because how extreme, original and well written it is. |

My Dying Bride Towards the Sinister | 3.5 |
Great thrashy banger. Hard to recognize MdB at this point but very enjoyable nonetheless. |
My Dying Bride The Ghost of Orion | 4.5 |
Everybody says this needs multiple listens to
fully grasp. It is indeed so, it started from
lukewarm upon first listen and moved up the
ladder to downright amazing for me after
repeated listens. Lyrics are as well amongst
the best I have ever seen. Just beautiful
stuff. |
My Dying Bride Symphonaire Infernus Et Spera Empyrium | 3.5 |
Amazing production for a 1991 demo. Very profound , heavy and mixing slow and relentless parts with grace. The violin gives a wonderful vibe full of emotion. |
My Dying Bride Turn Loose the Swans | 3.5 |
Very interesting and creative, a true behemoth that is standing tall under a gloomy and dark atmosphere. |
My Dying Bride The Thrash of Naked Limbs | 3.0 |
Despite the name this is not thrashy at all, it's even ambient for quite a while. Heavy doom with vocals a bit alike Barney Greenway. |
My Dying Bride God is Alone | 3.0 |
Intense , fierce, chunky and choppy. Really fun and primal, the raw gem was popping up. |
My Dying Bride As the Flower Withers | 4.0 |
So raw, so heavy, extremely organic, love the doomy and gloomy vibe. Excellent old school death metal. |
My Dying Bride I Am the Bloody Earth | 3.5 |
Some great mix of clashing doom, sweet guitar leads and soothing violins. It even has some good thrashy parts but the industrial and electronic bits don't work so well though. |
My Dying Bride The Angel and the Dark River | 3.5 |
Very sorrowful and melancholic with deep but uneventful vocals that developed a lot in the future albums. |
My Dying Bride Like Gods of the Sun | 4.0 |
Great riffs pulverising the exceptional atmosphere, this one is a very engaging whilst also sorrowful output. Top notch drum work as well. |
My Dying Bride 34.788%... Complete | 3.0 |
Toned down, going through the same industrial feel era as Paradise Lost, Septicflesh and Moonspell but all those albums fail to impress both soundwise and songwriting wise. Don't get me wrong, this is still enjoyable but under MdB standards. One thing that many reviewers negatively mentioned is the disappearance of heavy riffs, not sure how come, they are definitely still there although indeed not as frequent as on other albums. |
My Dying Bride The Light at the End of the World | 3.5 |
Riffing and drumming are superb but I would have one a better working atmosphere. |
My Dying Bride Meisterwerk I | 3.0 |
Mixed bag here, some demo, new mixes and other stuff. Some superb moments are going against some not so interesting demo versions.r |
My Dying Bride Meisterwerk II | 3.0 |
Only works well for fans, would recommend tons of other MdB releases to the casual listeners. |
My Dying Bride The Dreadful Hours | 4.0 |
Majestic, sublime, eerie, crushing, really impressive. The atmosphere is pulled out in a magnificent fashion. |
My Dying Bride The Voice of the Wretched | 3.5 |
I like a lot the musianship and the song selection whilst the mixing is not too good imho. Guitars and drums are too thin, vocals are too loud and the way the croud noises are captured do not blend well. |
My Dying Bride Songs of Darkness, Words of Light | 3.5 |
Interesting flows, very atmospheric and unitary. Manages to take me a bit out my comfort zone. |
My Dying Bride Anti-Diluvian Chronicles | 4.0 |
A monster compilation. It sounds so well and blends cohesively for an uter enjoyment (in a dark and dreary sense of course). |
My Dying Bride Sinamorata (DVD) | 4.5 |
So so lovely, absolutely superb atmosphere and bonus materials. Solemn, classy, just mesmerising. |
My Dying Bride A Line of Deathless Kings | 4.0 |
Elegantly crushing, such a tasteful album, growing more and more with each listen. |
My Dying Bride An Ode to Woe | 4.0 |
Such a soul enriching experience, setlist is great, theatrics have a lot of refinement and depth. |
My Dying Bride For Lies I Sire | 3.0 |
Failing to deliver the atmosphere it aims to, still enjoyable though. |
My Dying Bride Bring Me Victory | 2.5 |
It has most standard MdB elements but underwhelming all across. |
My Dying Bride Evinta | 3.0 |
I must admit I wouldn't have had the same level of patience with this if it was not MdB. Honestly not bad at all, classical music mixed with ambient, beautiful and relaxing most of the time. |
My Dying Bride The Barghest o’ Whitby | 4.5 |
Way too long build-up for a climax that is not as good as I would have expected. These were my thoughts after the first listen. What a fool I was. This is such a massive grower, extremely original, very entertaining and ending in a magnificent manner. |
My Dying Bride A Map of All Our Failures | 4.0 |
Super blend of melody and heaviness, cleans and growls, almost ambient and all out ferocious attacks. |
My Dying Bride Peaceville Presents... My Dying Bride | 3.0 |
I don't think I ever got into a band through a compilation but this surely is a good one. |
My Dying Bride The Manuscript | 4.0 |
Love the guitar tone, vocals and songwriting. Minor complaints: drums are a bit thin and although I like the individual songs a lot they do not blend too well. |
My Dying Bride The Vaulted Shadows | 4.5 |
Contains some of the best MdB songs although coming from 2 EPs and they flow so well together. |
My Dying Bride Feel the Misery | 4.0 |
The maturity of the band is fully visible on how much the band is in control of its craft here, a heavy, emotion filled, inspired craft that is. |
My Dying Bride Meisterwerk III | 4.0 |
Really appreciate the massiveness of this , filled with rawer than the norm material, sound just wonderful to my ears. |
My Dying Bride A Harvest Of Dread | 4.5 |
This is more than 5 hours of MdB goodies, absolutely brilliant stuff. Demo versions, live, band members' favourites. |

Reverend Bizarre II: Crush The Insects | 4.0 |
'Doom over the world' was for quite some time one of my most disliked songs ever, mainly due to the chorus on the refrain. I have come to peace with it meanwhile after many many listens. 'Cromwell' is an excellent banger and contributed a lot in me clicking with the band. Overall the album is quite upbeat and sounding happier than the debut which is not necessarily a good thing in metal but this band has got quality to pull out many diverse things. It is definitely more diverse as well. Very strong overall. |
Reverend Bizarre In The Rectory Of The Bizarre Reverend | 4.0 |
Nothing bizarre here, we are having a very talented group of individuals that have great synergy and implicitly they have managed to put out this excelent riff filled journey, having heartfelt and quite magical vocals toped by so many subtle nuances that put me down in awe. Or up. I don't know. A real gem here.r |
Reverend Bizarre III: So Long Suckers | 4.5 |
I rarely listen to trad doom, just not my thing. So ...we have here obnoxiously long songs clocking at over 2 hours in total under the monicker of a cringy album title.. which were the odds? I love this, the repetition gives a funeral doom (which I dig big time) aroma , there is a feel of natural, unforced organic in the superb flow, the riffs are not reinventing the wheel but are rolling like few other wheels can whilst the vocals are dinamic, superb, special, mind-blowing. |
Reverend Bizarre Harbinger of Metal | 3.5 |
great trad doom , a bit less inspired songwriting though than the usual reverend norm |
Reverend Bizarre Return to the Rectory | 4.0 |
Superb doom. diverse stuff. Contains Aleister, one of the best doom metal songs, period. Vocals are absolutely brilliant all across with high variety. |
Reverend Bizarre Thulsa Doom | 3.5 |
Short and sweet, warm, easy going trad doom - at least for ears used to extreme metal. Vocals and overall atmosphere are excellent, as usual for this great band. |
Reverend Bizarre The Goddess of Doom | 3.5 |
Well well well... What a combination!!! The first song is a funny as hell "Christina Ricci"callouts but at the same time catchy, uplifting, doomy , what can I say more? Well, it also has the list of top tier doom bands, coming in out of nowhere but super interesting. Second is an excellent , original Dunkelheit cover, do I really need to say more? |
Reverend Bizarre Slice of Doom | 3.5 |
Soothing and also catchy. Very airy stuff with some unique synths in the background. This is trad doom with funeral, stoner and drone flavours but still so cohesive and good. Vocals are top notch for sure. |
Reverend Bizarre Death Is Glory... Now | 4.5 |
You rarely get so much goodness in a single release, bsides, tracks from splits, a plethora of covers. This is top quality stuff, excelent andtrad doom , very well produced with trademark top notch beautifully insane vocals. The instrumental part is quite playful, but all the experimentation is done with lots of taste and inspiration. As well, most of the time there is a feel that this was was done effortlessly and I am saying that in the best possible way, it just flows so naturally and keeps you hooked and entertained at all times. |
Reverend Bizarre Magick with Tears | 3.5 |
Very solid trad doom with an interesting buzzing production in both the guitars and bass. These guys clearly had a hard time in doing anything wrong. Released after the band disbanded it contains the demo versions of songs from the debut album. |

This is more intense than Dragged in the sunlight and Teitanblood, never thought I would get to say this. Probably got there as this is moving me in a very profound way. |
Rorcal La Femme sans Tete | 3.0 |
Drone and noise stuff, the build-up did not do too much for me, second part is pretty nice (in a dirgey, sorrowful way, of course) |
Rorcal Myrra, Mordvynn, Marayaa | 3.0 |
Strong, powerful, enjoyable but not super inspired and the vocals are not top level unlike most Rorcal outputs. |
Rorcal The Way We Are, The Way We Were, The Way... | 4.5 |
However I would describe this it will sound generic. But nothing could be further from the truth. This is having a fantastic atmosphere , superb songwriting, great guitar sound, amazing drumming and insane vocals. I am blown away. |
Rorcal Monochrome | 2.5 |
Some good moments but the build-ups don't go anywhere and the vocals are quite empty. |
Rorcal Világvége - Live in Geneva | 3.5 |
Good stuff. One extra collaboration song but overall does not sound way too different from the studio version. |
Rorcal Heliogabalus | 3.0 |
Extremely intense and quite honestly one of the most tormenting soundscapes one can experience. The ritualistic parts are very creepy. As all in all not that much is happening, most of the feeling is coming from the atmosphere. Like the horror movies that are terrifying without being gruesome, just playing with your mind. |
Rorcal Prelude to Heliogabalus | 2.0 |
Drone ambient that uses electronic samples and that overall just does not do anything for me. |
Rorcal Vilagvege | 3.5 |
Very intense and menacing, crushing and full of emotions. |

Absolute madness, a major grower of an album,
this is magnificent in terms of song
arrangements, the atmospheric bits coming just
in time to heal the wounds from the previous
ferocious attacks. It is all across very well
balanced but what I appreciate most is that it
is very well crafted and very varied and never
gets boring. |

Of course it is excellent but such a lame story behind this. I am happy that despite the lack of guts and inspiration from the former recording company the one song album was still releases one day and way later the band also reunited. |

When I saw the album title I thought I will skip this in 30 seconds. Nothing against Gothic but this a very unoriginal name. Tossing that out, I was stunned of how well crafted and mind numbing this is. It is as unsettling as Sektarism, Emptiness or Hallowed butchery. Extremely diverse, very varied tempo wise, generally doomy and atmospheric but topped with some monstrous riffs that completely go out of the Black Metal spectre with almost a wall of sound effect often coming out of nowhere and leaving the listener in awe whilst vocals are truly amazing through their sheer quality but also through their unpredictability. |

Not an easy listen. Very gritty, abrasive and distorted. Extremely distorted even. The vocals are the same as usual (great and unique that is) but are a bit lower in the mix and also seem a bit like a sample, always the same. Songwriting is very creative and inspired despite the massive repetition. Electronic elements are tastefully used and are generally bringing melody and undertones that make the songs feel complete. |
