Amine Good For You3.5
Aminé's debut studio album Good for You is a lot like the musical equivalent of a good summer movie that makes you feel all good inside like Ferris Bueller's Day Off. There's plenty of fun to be had throughout the album's 15 tracks (Yellow, Caroline, Spice Girl), but isn't until the back end that Aminé's bars become a little more sincere and introspective. In that way, these tracks kind of serve as Cameron's existential crisis towards the end of Ferris Bueller (Sundays, Turf, Dakota) - in which our protagonists realize while fun has in fact been had, there's still a life full of responsibilities and consequences to get back to. And while Aminé definitely shows room for growth, Good for You is an overall solid project that indulges in some good sugary fun while also providing a bit more introspection than his XXL Freshman would currently delve into. In that way, Good for You is good for all of us. rBest Tracks: Veggies, Yellow, Spice Girl, Turf, Blinds, HeebiejeebiesrWorst Track: STFU

Some pretty great tracks on here with beautiful vocal performances, namely "Lovely" and "Poison". Everything else, however, is your normal Weeknd-esque boring moody PBR&B that every other artist is doing these days. Which is a damn shame because he really does have some pipes on him. Not to mention there are real annoying pretty sexist skits at the end of some of the tracks.

Brockhampton All-American Trash4.5
Wow, isn't it amazing how much an artists' past music can grow on you once you love their current
music? I, like most people, flocked to Brockhampton following the release of their stellar singles
in anticipation for their full length debut album. However, I heard about Brockhampton months
earlier, even downloading their free mixtape, "All-American Trash" but never giving it much of a
listen. When I did, it just sounded like a potpourri of ideas that weren't fully fleshed out,
blending hardcore hip hop with indie pop and a little bit of alternative rock thrown in for good
measure. But like all great albums do, "Saturation" made me revisit this tape in wondering how the
hell these boys pulled off such a killer record after what I considered to be a dull, dull
mixtape. But with every listen I gave this, I realized that what Brockhampton did wasn't just a
fluke, it was something they showed potential for all along. There are bangers on here
(Infatuation, Ben Carson, Flip Mo), the former of which features a chorus akin to the infectious
hooks that permeate Saturation and there are serene ballads (Home, Palace, Lost in Love) that will
please fans of MILK, SWIM, FACE and WASTE. And while there isn't a crazy career defining posse cut
on the tape, almost every member gets to showcase their talents (Kevin on Michigan, Ameer on Ben
Carson, Merlyn on Infatuation, Joba on Lost in Love, Matt on Poison, Bearface on Home, Dom on
Cotton Hollow). It is a mixtape that is being shamefully overlooked.
Brockhampton SATURATION4.5
nah fuck notkanyewest.
Brockhampton SATURATION II4.5
Brockhampton's Saturation II improves upon its predecessor in ways I didn't even think of. The group dynamic is
somehow even tighter - singers Joba and Bearface don't just loom in the shadows for most of the album like on
Saturation. I heard someone on a forum like Saturation II to the film Guardians of the Galaxy and as odd of a
comparison as that sounds, I can kind of see it. It has the cinematic scope of a sequel, where all our heroes are
reassembled in all flashy effects to once again fight the good fight. The beats are bigger and better - it's a lot like
an upgraded, bigger budget version of Saturation. The hooks are still there and even the writing has improved,
there's hardly a bad verse on this thing. Hell, even what would probably be this album's versions of 2Pac are
much stronger, featuring great verses from both Ameer and Kevin (Teeth and Jesus) And while some tracks are
weaker or more generic than others (Chick, Gamba, Sunny), the strength of the bulk of this album outweighs
them, crafting an album more ambitious and ultimately better than the previous one. rBest Songs: Gummy,
Junky, Summer, Tokyo, Jesus, SweetrWorst Track: Chick
Bruno Mars Unorthodox Jukebox3.0
Bruno Mars 24K Magic4.5
Pure pop perfection. Bruno Mars's 20/20 Experience. In a year where every pop album was many tracks too long (Views, Starboy, The Life of Pablo), Bruno instead opts for a short album with no filler. While the album probably won't top the pop charts the way his previous efforts, it's hard to deny that this is Bruno's best effort yet. rBest Tracks: Calling All My Lovelies, That's What I Like, Versace on the Floor

Catfish and the Bottlemen The Ride2.5
Basically their debut, Part II. Only this has far less grit and feels less genuine. There rare some great songs on this, but ends up being a watered down version of The Balcony (which in and of itself is already watered down) CFATB rrun the risk of becoming a Reverend and the Makers: another nameless gritty indie rock, rpost-punk revival band that, while fun, is utterly forgettable. They need album 3 to provide rsome experimentation at all or CFATB will become even more irrelevant. Recommended Tracks: rSoundcheck, Glasgow, Emily, Heathrow

Kanye West The Life of Pablo2.5
It's hard to see any way in which this album could influence future hip hop. If 808s influenced the many mopey R&B artists like Drake and The Weeknd and if Yeezus was an attempt at watered down Death Grips, then what in Kanye's name is The Life of Pablo? Calling The Life of Pablo a fucking mess is an understatement and it's easy to view the album as Kanye's White Album or In Utero. A big fuck you to the public (as if Yeezus wasn't already that). But Pablo's messiness doesn't come anywhere near those albums minor inconsistencies or filler tracks. The Life of Pablo has highlights aplenty (Ultralight Beam, No More Parties in L.A., Wolves, Waves) but for all those it has plenty of terrible tracks (basically the entire first half of the album). The Life of Pablo is something to marvel at indeed. It's the first album to be tweaked post-release. So if there's one thing the album succeeds at, it's further cementing Kanye's cultural relevance as an artist, one who is not afraid to advance his field, even if those advancements are...sometimes terrible.

Maybe it hasn't clicked with me yet, but I really don't think this matches the level of The College Dropout or MBDTF. Kanye West The College Dropout5.0
Without a doubt one of the greatest debut albums of all time. One of those albums that, if you don't like hip hop, this will be an exception. In fact, I feel like this album is as much an R&B album as much as it is a hip hop album. I'm sure enough has been said about the samples but they really do brighten up these songs and make them that much more catchy. The album never really loses its grip on the listener in spite of the fact that it is so long. "We Don't Care" is one of the best opening tracks I've ever heard.rBest Tracks: We Don't Care, Spaceship, Through the Wire, Never Let Me Down

A really good indie pop album, though it is evidently missing something I can't quite place. Undeniably good indie pop. A band that doesn't even have to strive for that glam, vintage aesthetic because you can hear it in each piano note, unlike Arctic Monkeys or The 1975. While Ace in the Hole and Midnight Movies never quite reach the heights of My Type or Cold Cold Man, they still rise above radio rock with real, authentic fun.

The 1975 Music For Cars3.5
The most ambient of their EPs. "Anobrain" isn't anything special, but "Chocolate" and "Head.Cars.Bending" are absolute jams. "HNSCC" is pretty, but only serves as a preview of what would be mastered on I like it when you sleep with the three ambient/post-rock interludes. "Me" is the best track on here, opening us up to the enigma of a frontman (or wanker, depending on who you ask) that is Matty Healy.
The 1975 Facedown4.0
Pretty solid EP from the now well-known band. "Facedown" is as shoegaze-y as you might expect from them. "Antichrist" is the real standout here though and it's a wonder how it was absent from their debut. "Woman" is a pretty sweet closer, though it is somewhat similar to "Is There Somebody Who Can Watch You" in that its sentiment can't help but feel more of a test than a true ballad.
The 1975 A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships4.0
The 1975 IV4.5
Solid EP, though it could do without "The City". I'm about 90% sure the chorus to "So Far (It's Alright)" is blatantly plagiarized from another song, but it's still a solid song so. "Haunt // Bed" is gorgeously haunting, while "Fallingforyou" is seemingly set to become the young love anthem for every millenial.
The 1975 Sex5.0
By far their best EP. Starts off a bit weak, however, with "Intro/Set3" whose chorus is clearly a precursor to "The Sound". But from then on, the EP is nothing but bangers. "Undo" is addictive and features a gorgeous synth line. "Sex" is a classic; "You" is perfect U2-esque stadium rock. Hidden track "Milk" is essentially the riff from M83's "Graveyard Girl", though it isn't wasted. All in all, if you hate their debut album but love I like it when you sleep, you should without a doubt give this a listen.
The 1975 The 19755.0
The 1975 I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It5.0
A massive improvement over their debut. Gorgeous, sublime album with something for everyone. Although I think rit would've benefited with the ethereal songs and pop songs on separate sides, it is something truly beautiful. rEven if you hated their debut, I think you should give this a shot.rRecommended Songs: UGH!, The Sound, She's American, Please Be Naked, Paris, She Lays Down

It's free on Bandcamp so it without a doubt deserves a listen. I think it may be a future emo
classic, and the lyrics on this thing are just brilliant and poetic. It's sort of like a
combination of Say Anything and TWIABP. And it's catchy as hell, if that's your thing. Recommended

Starboy is definitely the best post-Trilogy release from The Weeknd. Unfortunately though, the singles off Beauty Behind the Madness are better than the singles off this. Even still, the record works better as a whole. It definitely doesn't bring anything new to the table but as a pop album, it's pretty solid. If it were to lose 3 or 4 tracks, it would be a 4.5-5.rBest Tracks: Secrets, True Colors, Sidewalks, A Lonely Night, I Feel It ComingrWorst Tracks: Ordinary Life, both fucking tracks with Future

A lot of people think the score doesn't fit the movie, but I strongly disagree. The "Unmade" sequence is fucking unreal. Off the top of my head, it's probably the best film score this year and I hope Yorke gets Original Score and Song nominations at the Oscars. Not to mention the film is infinitely better than the original - Luca Guadagnino is a filmmaker at the top of his game. Strongly recommended.

Really damn good for a debut EP. "Stone Cold Fox" is probably the heaviest song this band has done. It almost seems like they were unsure if they wanted to be a new wave band or an emo-pop band like early Panic! at the Disco. All the songs are catchy, and pretty much on par with their stuff now. Really interesting to see how they evolved. Also the version of "Jenny" on here is almost as good as the version on the self-titled.

As someone who couldn't give two shits about X's music and had only heard "Look at Me!", I wasn't really sure what to expect from the XXL Freshman's debut record. And now that it's here...I'm surprised I enjoy it as much as I do. I don't think it's groundbreaking or god awful, but I do think it's a pretty solid debut. While I think X's image is overall cringeworthy, this album does a pretty good job at avoiding the cringe outside of the intro. And even in that intro, I hear a bit of honesty in X's voice that I kind of admire. And let me just say that bringing Shiloh Dynasty to sing on this record was probably the best move X made for this album - her voice is completely haunting and I can't get those melodies out of my head. As for the lyrical content, it's pretty much what you'd expect. It's like a solid 3.2. rBest Tracks: Jocelyn Flores, Everybody DiesrWorst Track: Fuck Love (It's alright but it sticks out like a sore thumb)
