This really is a great DH album. One of their best for sure. It has everything they do well all wrapped together into an hour long epic.

A "metal" album against everything metal stands for. A pile of garbage filth made by christian propaganda, disgusting.

With solid improvement in the vocal department, some experimentation, good variation in the structures of songs and some nice instrumentals, Demon Hunter's latest effort shows them halting the regressive path that they have been on the last couple albums. Instead, they chose to push themselves further, and the result was an enjoyable album.

True Defiance is a massive improvement over The World is a Thorn, and sees them renewed
with ambition and energy. With energetic performances such as "Wake", or "God Forsaken", this
record grabs the listener's attention, unlike the previous effort.
Furthermore, the ambition of Demon Hunter shines through songs such as "I Am a Stone", with
absolutely no guitars or drums; just violins and other string arrangements. Clearly, this payed off,
considering it's one of Demon Hunter's most popular songs; which is most definitely well-deserved.

A solo in every song made the album formula seem stale and the the production is a step lower for a DH album. Especially for the drums. Still, songs like God Forsaken, Wake, Someone to Hate and Dead Flowers show the bands growth.

Used to listen to this band at church camp, it was the only thing that kept me from listening CCM only to find out it wasn't that different. They are not that bad, they're just painfully average.

Fuck it. the sentimental value is too great to be a 3.0

Not really their best work to date, but True Defiance still showcases the band's evolving technicality.

Great album, saw them live in Sydney and not only is their music pounding, their live show proved they are a very talented set, true defiance is a great effort and worth the listen.

If Demon Hunter sticks with the formula used for this album, they will see a subsequent rise in fans and popularity. True Defiance is a very good record and their best to date I must also say. The choruses are spectacular as the cleans fit perfectly to help the song soar and have them stuck in your head for days to come. The drumming is spectacular throughout and really keeps the pace nicely. A nice use of variety is showcased as certain songs have an almost radio-freindy rock sound to it which is nothing short of an unexpected yet pleasant surprise. I do believe everyone should pick up a copy of this even if they are not a Demon Hunter fan. I certainly wasn't but became one after listening to True Defiance.

This album is much more consistent than Thorn (what a jumbled mess it was). It's a big improvement but I can't really listen to this album for more than 3 songs or so before getting bored. Some songs have high energy intros only to be brought down during the choruses (though Ryan's clean vocals are great). The solos are average but appreciated, it seems more and more Metalcore bands choose the breakdown path since it's easier.

I expected to hate this notably more than I really do. Some pretty good tracks here, some really boring ones, worth a shot if you've ever enjoyed anything post-self-titled by the band. If only they stopped recycling old formulas for each release.

To say this album is great or even good, you would have to stack it up against their previous albums. Upon comparison it can easily be seen this isn't their best work and to give it a much higher score would simply be a fan boy rating.

This is way better than The World Is a Thorn, but they still have yet to rediscover their Triptych mojo.
