5.0 classic | TimeToDie | April 13th 12 | The definitive progressive punk album. This album is filled with great songs that incorporate jazzy baselines and complex rhythms.

4.5 superb | Iai EMERITUS | June 27th 06 | PUNK. AS. F*CK. Seriously, if you could throw all the ingredients you need to create the perfect punk band into a pot, NoMeansNo would probably pop out after you're done boiling. Awesome, manly basslines, excursions into dirty, manly jazz, intricate, manly (well, kinda) guitar lines, and near-psychedelic invention, all locked into an endless, furious groove. All that, and songs called "Big Dick" and "Brainless Wonder". On "The Tower", they prove they can play straight up rock-n-roll with the best of them, too, and "Rags And Bones" boasts one of the most addictive riffs in punk history. Refused would later improve on this blueprint, but they needed NoMeansNo to lay the foundations for them first, and Wrong is the album where they absolutely nailed it.

3.5 great | ExoskeletalJunction | January 11th 22 | 8th January: NoMeansNo - Wrong (post-hardcore, 1989)
Ridiculously creative - for post-hardcore of this era, I’ve never heard anything that so
seamlessly merges the genre’s ability to be both complex and simplistic, finding the virtues in
both sides. Some of its abrasiveness is still taking a while to settle with me though, but it is
growing on me each time, and maybe after a while I’ll be able to praise it just on having good
songs rather than its obvious creativity and influence. I really like a couple of cuts here - the
opener and “The End of All Things” being the most notable, but both are obviously where the album
takes a turn for the melodic, and the progressive rock influence comes out. Still, I like this a
hell of a lot more than what I expected (don’t ask what exactly I expected), and in my long quest
to find albums I like from 1989 (the lowest rated year on my spreadsheet), this could well end up
amongst the top.

5.0 classic | MisterDoe | May 5th 20 | Gruff-and-tough, meat-and-potatoes post-hardcore done to a tee. From the technical ability to its aggressive performances, NoMeansNo easily shines from the rest of the fodder with personality and cynicism.

5.0 classic | boogs | September 10th 11 | There will never be another band quite like NoMeansNo. Hailing from Canada and playing a rtechnical and rhythmically complex brand of punk rock, the band has never broken through rwith mainstream success, but that doesn't seem to bother them at all. After over 30 years rand 10 studio albums, it's safe to say Wrong is their crowning achievement. The music is rangry, hilarious, beautiful, and utterly original. It is nearly impossible to capture the ressence of Wrong; it doesn't fit in with the landscape of what was being made at the time rnor with what has been made since. Each song is a concoction of different styles and ideas, rseamlessly shifting tempos at a rate that would make jazz musicians proud. A bizarre punk rrock contradiction of being both instrumentally ambitious and emotionally raw, it is truly rtimeless music. Far and away one of my favorite albums of all time and a criminally under rappreciated gem.
