2.5 average | Darkfloyd1 | April 24th 12 | As a fan of Mikael and Steven, this album is just pure...boring. Too much prog apparently can be a bad thing (unless you're genesis) and the album comes off as stale, especially after the first two songs which are good, but drag on. It's Scott Walker lite almost with soundscapes and periods of quiet interludes where you can't really hear or tell what is going on. Worth a listen if you are fans of the duo but nothing is going to jump out at you. Hipsters are going to dig deep to try to divulge some sort of ethereal profoundness to the album but seriously if it's boring it's boring bottom line. Nice try guys, you got it out of your system please go back to your respective bands and try to be creative again.

4.0 excellent | WyldStallyns7 | April 29th 12 | This album is the beautiful love child of two of music's greatest geniuses. Very low key and relaxing yet so ornate with every sound mixing together beautifully. If you are going into this album looking for an Opeth-like heavy metal album or a Porcupine Tree prog rock album you will be disappointing, but if you truly understand the influences and sounds of both artists it is a masterpiece for the ears.

4.5 superb | selz42 | April 23rd 12 | I only listened to it once and to say the least it is exactly the type of music that i expected from these two (not to say that that is a bad thing). If you've been following the interviews, I would say that they were exactly right on it being a 50-50 collaboration and the elements included in the music. There are parts that sound like Wilson's "Grace for Drowning" and others that resemble "Heritage" in a way. I would even go as far to say that there are elements of Opeth's album "Still Life" or even "Orchid", but of course without the growls. Overall I am amazed by the uniqueness of the music and I'm sure it will grow on me the more i listen to it. I was not a huge fan of "Grace for Drowning" but i think this album was a lot better. Overall I am pretty satisfied with the album on my first listen.

0.0 | altertide0 | April 27th 15 | This late addition to one of progressive rock's industry biggest giant's catalogue, a hardly
expected quiet and reflective meditation on pain and loss, is actually Wilson's best album (as of
2016). The tribal chants, slow guitar solos and calm vocal impressions of the two best tracks,
self-titled and "Ljudet Innan", leave the tight song structures typical of Wilson far behind and
instead embrace the experimental, psychedelic folk territory in order to summon up long forgotten
memories.

4.0 excellent | OmairSh | October 9th 12 | This album is very moody, but not as much as I had anticipated and hoped for. The album has it's brooding moments but I had expected quite a bit more dissonance, tension and experimentation. I knew these 2 had it in them and so I wasn't surprised with the result. Expectations aside this is still a great record with terrific songwriting and great contributions from both Mr. Wilson and Mr. Akerfeldt, though I expected more vocal interplay between the 2. The production is good but I thought it could've been better, and the album could feel more "powerful" and "dark". There are many great moments on the record but I have to mention 2 which I enjoyed the most, the intro to Drag Ropes and the atmospheric section of Ljudet Innan, incredible, simplistic yet so impactful. THANK GOD they didn't make a prog metal album, we have plenty of those out there, the world needs more storm corrosion!

3.2 good | Erwann S. STAFF | September 9th 22 | Akerfeldt and Wilson: yah that was meant to be, but who did expect an ambient prog/psych folk release? The production is - ofc - gorgeous, and the record primarily works on a cinematic level. That means some passages, while beautiful, generate little engagement from my side.

3.0 good | GhandhiLion | July 16th 17 | Oh wow a prog revival album that isn't boring. I can hear King Crimson, Comus etc yet it isn't a negative. (The opposite of the raven that refused to sing).

1.5 very poor | EasterInTheBatcave | December 25th 15 | One of the more disappointing records in recent memory. A long awaited collaboration between Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson and Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt, it is an occasionally clumsy, often maudlin, and overall half-baked effort. It's mostly slow, and while individual sections are sometimes worthwhile (the noise-to-acoustic interruption in the title track), the songs are poorly constructed.

4.0 excellent | TheIntruder | September 14th 15 | For those who are familiar with Wilson and Akerfeldt works, it should not take to much time to figure out who wrote the ideas. Each musician has a very particular music style and both sounds in equal proportion on the album. The string arrangements, melodies and song structures have the immediately distinctive signature of both musicians. However, Storm Corrosion style is very fresh and even unique. This is not the ultimate masterpiece that we expected, but there is no disappointment here. Storm Corrosion is a memorable ambient journey, taking Wilson and Akerfeldt down a darker path than either has been before. It is great to accompany these two great visionaries musicians as they explore new and fresh territories with their music.

0.0 | WickedMystic | May 1st 12 | After one listen, it stands at a 4. It's very eerie and calm. It's not immediate at all. I think it will take multiple listens to either grow/dissipate. But I liked what I heard. It's no Blackwater Park/In Absentia, but it's something. Very interesting and intriguing. I will write a better soundoff after like 5 more listens~ I will say that the part at 5 minutes into the first track is stunning. :O
