'The Impossibility of Reason' is most notable for the fact that it was released by the same band that churned out the woeful 'Pass Out of Existence'. While that album chugged through nu metal cliches relentlessly and pointlessly, this one is quite enjoyable. They've changed direction to become a metalcore band, but they do it surprisingly well. Laden with simplistic, thick, head-banging riffs, this one is best enjoyed with some liquid enhancement. Unfortunately, Mark Hunter still sucks horribly as a vocalist and is the key aspect in this album not receiving a higher grade.

"Stigmurder," "Eyes of a Criminal," and "Implements of Destruction" are great songs, the latter verging on excellent, but they're not enough to elevate Chimaira's sophomore effort beyond average metalcore. It's an improvement on "Pass Out of Existence," at least.

Though there's some good material present, the (usually) slow, dragged out progression of the songs build up and make an otherwise good album rather forgettable.
