A bit of a busy album, by shoegaze's standards, but a rewarding one at that. I often find myself disheartened with the style's atmosphere-heavy standards, where very little room is left for melodic creativity or song-writing self-expression. Somehow, maybe by accident, The December Sound manages to navigate around that with ease, delivering an album both typically atmospheric for the genre, but also uniquely passionate and full of character.
