Mutemath are hard to figure out. On one hand the lead singer sounds like Sting, they imitate Coldplay pop hooks, and they have a decided tinge of the mainstream. On the other hand they are stunningly experimental and undefinable, using hip-hop rhythms, indie instrumentation, and an almost electronica undercurrent. The resulting record is uneven, but hints at future promise. Expect big things from this band in the future; in the meantime check out 'Chaos', 'Noticed', and 'Typical'

its hard to compare mutemath to any other group because they drift in and out of certain genres, showing influence from numerous musicians and styles of music. the soothing instrumental tracks like 'Polite'and 'Obsolete' show a form of psychedelic rock, while tracks like 'Chaos' and 'Typical' give the album an influence from modern pop/rock. it's a real interesting listen. the album is great, and big things are expected from them in the future.

I have been familiar with some of Mutemath's newer work for some time now and couldn't understand where their fandom's hate for their latest album comes from ('Play Dead' as of right now). I have now familiarised myself with this too. I understand it now. They weren't always a prog-pop band, turns out. They were a generic alt-rock band with moderately ambitious song-writing techniques.

This album is one of the best I've ever heard. After searching everywhere for any other albums like this one, I couldnt find any. This album has supplied such a unique sound that I'm in love with and deserves to be credited classic for it.

Creates a great blend of electronic pop and ska for a very original and cool sound. The album has a great energy and feel to it with good lyrical writing.
