"Hey, we're As Blood Runs Black, an awesome new death metal band. We play our instruments pretty darn well, but unfortunately it doesn't cover up the fact that we have close to no songwriting abilities at all. Do you like to mosh and headbang to breakdowns? Then this album is for you, because there's at least 20 on here! In fact, some of the songs basically revolve around them. We could play some more actual riffs, but we just love our breakdowns so much. So do all the fans, cause this new subgenre called 'deathcore' is really picking up steam. Well, gotta go, we've been charged with breakdown abuse and the music police are after us. Remember kids: CHUG CHUG!!!"

Poor lyrics, songwriting, and repetitiveness burn this mediocre album. It is also too bad they lost their drummer, who was the only member of the band with any visible talent.

At least this is self-aware deathcore (the "Chug Chug" song title). Granted, it's still mostly terrible (though "Hester Prynne" is fun), but that sort of levity is appreciated in a genre that almost unanimously takes itself way too seriously.

As Blood Runs Black, a new metalcore band coming out of Los Angeles, California's debut album is a hardhitting 10 song assault of breakdowns, some of the fastest double bass I've ever heard, and no lack of screaming. The guitar work in this album is fairly decent, its good but nothing we haven't seen before. The bass lines on this album are good when you can hear them. The vocal variety is very good i just wish they could add a little bit of clean vocals.
Stand out tracks
The Brighter Side Of suffering - Starting off with an intro guitar riff and drums, this song sticks in your mind with the drum rolls, blast beats, and guitar riffs. The breakdowns in this song aren't my favorite from As Blood Runs Black but they certainly aren't horrible
My Fears Have Become Phobias - The first single off of this cd, has two breakdowns, interesting guitar riffs, and chanting. Nothing completely special but definetly not mediocre.
Legends Never Die - One of my favorites off this album. This song has some of the fastest blast beats and double bass I have ever heard listen to around 1:48 in this song. Not only the double bass caught me in this song but the riffs flow very well.
In Dying Days - another one of my favorites mostly because of the guitarwork (could be slightly biased as i am a guitar player). The drum work like most songs is quite good in this song to.
Beneath The Surface- Amazing drum work in this song, great vocal variety, and good guitar work make this another one of my favorites on this cd.

Four-piece Los Angeles deathcore outfit As Blood Runs Black owes a lot to melodic death metal bands like The Black Dahlia Murder, as their sound on this record is essentially TBDM, just with ungodly fast double-bass, romping breakdowns, and Wu-Tang quotes. And if none of that sounds appealing to you, then I'm sorry. Beginning with the triple-headed medusa of "In Dying Days", "My Fears Have Become Phobias", and "Hester Prynne", the band make it known that they can write some good riffs, especially in the case of "Hester Prynne", and also have a fantastic drum performance. Essentially, the first six songs (including the intro) are perfect deathcore, sans "Pouring Reign", which is still incredible, but rather than deathcore it is a surprisingly beautiful acoustic interlude that provides a nice break from the relentless action. But, once "The Brighter Side Of Suffering" ends, things never get back to the quality they used to be at. The next four songs are unimaginative and unmemorable, and they do no justice to the first half of the album at all. Despite ending on this sour note, the albums' first six songs are basically perfect, and had they been released as an EP, it likely would've been the greatest deathcore EP ever released.

Pretty good for deathcore that tends towards the core. Every song has at least one good riff and at least one boring one, but the breakdowns aren't all boring and the songs tend to have interesting structures. The drumming is definitely the highlight - the double bass is as fast as anything you'll hear. This is cookie-cutter, but is somehow charming and worth repeated listening.

You can call As Blood Runs Black decent deathcore. There are alot of melodic guitar riffs on this album (Not old Underoath quality riffs), and obviously a lot of chugging. The amount of chugging could as well be a turn off if there is too much of it. They even called a song "Chug Chug".

As Blood Runs Black is a band full of great ideas, and there are little moments here where that can be justified, but it seems as if all those ideas weren't put on the table. 'Allegiance' isn't a failure in any way, but it's lead upon the few great moments throughout.

A brutal and pummeling album thanks to epic drum work courtesy of Leche , as well as great guitars and bass. The vocalist was a bit raw on this I thought but still decent. These guys have some of the best breakdowns you'll ever hear.

Now i know people may bash me for this but i really enjoy this album. Having said that, im not gonna be like omg ABRB are the best band ever! lol. i play guitar and these riffs are very generic and repetetive but the album itself is fun and catchy. did anyone notice the intro riff to "Legends Never Die" and "The Brighter Side of Suffering" are the exact same notes? they are. lol
but this is a decent album, very fun to play.
i recommend in dying days, legends never die and beneath the surface to start off

Wowzers when I heard this album i was blown away these guys are amazing and this album is just so sic. From the intro to the end. this is so heavy and like its got a little melody in it too. I remember when i just heard of them in school. then i went on myspace and check these guys out i was just like omg these guys are gonna be big.
Ok Allegiance first starts out with this intro its just a taste of what to come fast drumming with some chugs on the guitar.Then it goes to In Dying Days which is the first song I heard from ABRB it starts out with a little melody riff that is so awesome and then i just kicks in to the band showing there talents with fast everything and the vocalist talents where he changes like his tone of voice from like this shriek to growl the whole song is just SIC and then it goes to this breakdown that just makes u wanna fight. The song is one remember.
After that come My Fears Have Become Phobias and this song also is amazing the riffs i just was like what is this and then the Breakdown is Punishing with the drumming it just feels like 80 rhinos running into you. its an amazing song and it ends with this funny little voice thingy. The come Hester Prynne My favorite song on the it has awesome drumming and its really fast and the breakdown and it ends with this like chanting that is really good. Pouring reign is not a heavy song its more of a soft little song where the band shows there talent that they can play many different styles.
Now The Brighter Side Of Suffering starts kinda like Black and Blue by Bring Me The Horizon another great band but then it just goes back to ABRB and it goes back to those heavy riffs and alittle melody in the middle but out of no where comes this guitar solo that is so sic then into these chants to another punishing breakdown. The Next song is The Beautiful Mistake which starts with these chants and its really good and never gets boring for me and out of now where a solo again that is really good. Strife ( chug chug) is just an all out track to mosh too the whole song just makes me wanna fight. Beneath The Surface and Legends Never Die are just tracks to headbang too with most of the same form ABRB heavy riffs and fast drumming.
This album is just really good if you like heavy music with breakdowns

This album most critisized characteristic is that it repeats over and over, which i can understand how people are saying this. Probably about 35% of the album is just open not breakdowns, but this is just part of who this band is. They can really put on a show with these songs. The drummer can really show his talents even though he is accused in using a trigger for his bass drum. Chug Chug is a amazing song and can really get your adrenalin running! This is a great Death Metal album and should be herd by many Death Metal fans.

This is a good album. There is a lot of musical talent here, and some pretty good songwriting. There are a lot of breakdowns, however they play stuff inside of the breakdowns that makes them much more interesting.
Its not too bad but it's just kind of repetitive.
