Great start to King Diamond's solo career. Im gine Mercyful Fate, just more straightforward. That is basically what this is. Also more theatrical, but still that eerie atmospheric old school metal. Also the first appearance of then unknown guitar wiz Andy LaRoque.

Fatal Portrait is some good speed metal with great shredding and cool chorus' and vocals all around by King. However, not all of the songs are able to maintain the greatness that some have.

Solid debut from King's new band. New members Andy La Rocque and Mikkey Dee later would become legends. You can hear a tiny tinge of speed metal here too. And the cover artwork is great! I suggest You to buy this album with bonus tracks "The Lake" and "No Presents For Christmas". Both are King Diamond's classics.
