With a new vocalist Morbid Angel inaugurated a more down-tuned, sludgier sound and it's totally awesome. The tracks are all brutal but vary in structure and speed. The vocals are guttural and great and the music is the quality you expect from the band. The only real problem is that there's not quite enough of it all.

a lot of tracks sound like reworked osdm versions of cc songs, some garbage prog, random atmospheric bullshit, goes on for way too long, but chambers of dis and covenant of death trimmed down for the trv parts go ahrd

This is a weird album to me. While it is clearly a sort of answer to the slower, slimier approach of Domination, it tries combining early MA speed with the slimy approach of Domination. It is also quite complex making me think I might need more listens.

Formulas Fatal to the Flesh is, quite simply, a relentless onslaught of riffs, which kinda softens when you get to the last 2 tracks. The highlight here is definitely the epic "Invocation of the Continual One", which easily ranks among the band's very best songs. Highly recommended.

One of the more overlooked albums in Morbid Angel's discography. I made the mistake of disregarding it, and I honestly wish I could've gotten a chance to absorb the content of this LP earlier. Tucker's vocals are great, Trey's leads are top-notch, and Pete's drumming is tight as ever. Fantastic album.

Morbid angel can be...frustrating at times. It seems like every album tries something new. Its always still very death metal but it seems they are never content with sticking with one style, or progressing naturally, they seem to jsut randomly pick how they want to sound? does that make any sense? haha let me elaberate. Alters for isntance is very raw and fast. Blessed is alittle slower. Covenant is solid for comericail. Domination is like half good and have slime haha. And NOW we get to failures, Wow even with some key members passing this is friggen ridiculous, Trey did alot better at writing this album than alot expected, its some of the fastest stuff since alters. In fact my only comlaint really is all the instrumental tracks. One or 2 maybe can add to the flow of the album, but all of these take away from the total effect. But the actual meaty songs are just sick, really imporessive for 1999, infact that fisr time i heard it i thought rutan was still in the band, because its just as brutal as the stuff hes written for lets say hate eternal. so yeah i think if the production was different, different song placement, no annoying instrumentals this could rank alot higher, but its still awesome
