No matter how how much music you listen to this Album will sound completely different and impossible to compare. It won't matter if you listen to every sludge and stoner album, nothing gets close to this.

As well as Cathedral's Carnival Bizarre, this is a reef riff machine. Pepper Keenan's guitar tone is perfect for this sludgy southern stoner bomb of a record. This is muddy as fuck, and maybe the record I associate the most with NOLA's swamps. Lotta booze, lotta weed, lotta riffs, lotta headbanging.

Pretty much the sound you'd hear if Clutch adapted a heavy metal sound and expanded vocals, even if they are drastically differing in extremes. Still a heavy album for future metal acts that more or less have created a sound just as on this album.

What separates NOLA from other riff-centric metal albums is that every riff ACTUALLY MATTERS. There is not rany wasted notes here, and the members of Down have some of their best moments of their entire careers here. rFrom the all-out metal stomp of Temptations Wings to the intense sludgy burn of Bury Me In Smoke, NOLA rproves the old philosophy that less really is more. If this sounds like a very long-winded, over-dramatic rexplanation as to why I love this record, you'd probably be right. Just do yourself a favor and go listen to Down's rNOLA, it'll make you grow hair on your chest.

No doubt their best album, but Down, perhaps more so than their daddy band Pantera, have set themselves apart from the pretenders with this heavy masterpiece. Essential for any metal fan, especially if you like Pantera.

Picture this, Pepper Keenan from Corrosion Of Conformity, on the guitar, and the intimidating Phil Anselmo from Pantera. With a couple other dudes that are worthy enough to play the same show as these two badasses. Now if you know Pepper's guitar work at all, you can get a good picture of what the guitar workmore feirce and is what you could call "in your face."
This is average Phil A. vocals, just like what you would get from the Pantera days, I will have to slap you if you compare it to the vocals from Superjoint Ritual, Superjoints vocals are harsh, and gives out ton of screaming, that not what Down gives out.
