2.0 poor | GleamInRanks | May 1st 07 | Not thinking of any new ideas seems to be a hobby for Death By Stereo. Much of Death For Life is your basic of hardcore, with heavier verses and sing-along choruses. Adding a more obvious metal influence, only hinted on previous DBS releases, to the already tired formula was a fatal mistake. The only thing worth any sort of praise is the guitar solos that were placed in a genre that usually doesn't contain them. The vocals, on the other hand are completely ridiculous, and not in a good way. Schulz attempts at screaming and growling are hideous and his lyrics, for the most part, are the same way. Every aspect of Death For Life, has been done... too many times

2.5 average | Jared Floryan | September 3rd 15 | What makes Death for Life such a tedious listen compared to previous Death by Stereo offerings is its lack of charisma. DTS were never one of the most distinctive punk bands, and frontman Efrem Schulz technically can't sing to save his life (I like his vocals in general, though), but energy wasn't a characteristic they didn't have prior to this record here. Combine that with a ton of staying power and you had a troupe who knew how to go for broke; for a good chunk of DTS' fourth studio album, however, that's unfortunately not the case. I like to think this fivesome wanted to hop on the 2000s metalcore bandwagon and shamelessly copy said subgenre's more popular groups. It's not an ultimately horrible effort, but man were these guys going through the motions at the time Death for Life was released.
