4.0 excellent | Shadows | July 25th 06 | Technical death metal has been an underrated genre. There are bands that are capable of taking its unending chaos to new levels while still creating intricate, listenable music. Gorod breaths new life into a world where many were getting bored waiting around for the new Necrophagist album. With sickening vocals, chugging riffs, and mind-blowing lead guitar, Gorod is a fucking intensely brutal band. They also throw in elements of melody that compliment the brutality in such a way as to create images of prison rapes and bar brawls. You'd never guess such an extreme band would have a female drummer, but it just goes to show that women are always welcome in extreme metal.

3.5 great | Bedex | September 23rd 20 | Fck this sucks but also it owns. Here's a frustrating album that goes on for way too long and gets hurt by it. I have to say the first half of the intro track is quite unique and draws you into the album with its corey vocals and interesting instrumentation. The riff midtrack is original but a bit eh, then it gets very Cynicey. For the rest, the album will alternate about 75% of super cool tech death riffz with intricate rhythms, 10% of tech death riffz that don't work so well, and the rest is just wankery solos and stuff that gave me bad memories of thrash binges. Some of the riffs are really fat like 3 despite the burpvomit vox which are generally fine but never really the selling point for me, but by 4 I already knew the cringe bits would probably keep this sub 4.0. By 6 the album was already getting a bit long, and with 7 I wanted it to stop, with about 25min to go. Some parts of 8 are really terrible to a laughable degree. 10 gave me some hope with some particularly cool riffs but that are then followed by some guitar neck tappy wanking, and 12 is just an awful track. I give them bonus points because when it works, this is really good, and I am still excited to check out their discog, but I'm also scared. 3.3

3.5 great | GamamJ | July 24th 20 | Yes, amazing modern tech-death! Much of modern tech-death is awful sweepy conpletely unmusical... music. However, when you find the eight bands, it can be just about the best thing on thos earth. Gorod are amongst them. At this point, one might ask, why inly a 3.5 with such big words? Well, unfortunately this album has some cohesion and consistency issues. It seems to jump in and out of styles and the mix has some discrepancies too. The first half is brilliant neoclassical tech-death which is amazing and technical, but never tiringly. Then, Gorod junp head first into more groovy stuff, leaving me just thinking «what?». It is also a little too long. However it has spades of potential, so cannot wait to hear more.
