I've been using this term a lot lately, but this is easy listening music. Not nearly as creative as How I Got Over was in incorporating a less hard-hitting, indie approach to their craft. Their time on Jimmy Fallon's show is unfortunately rubbing off on their compositions.
This is the worst Roots record ever made.

I'm a fan of the concept on paper, but in the actual, it actually doesn't work that well for me. I mean Black Thought is great as always and Questlove delivers a really great production, but I don't something didn't click with me.

Yep, same feeling as in 2011: it's well produced, the rapping is tight and the lyrics are good as always with them, but after finishing this album I'm always a bit disappointed. IMMA JAM ILLADELPH HALFLIFE.

This is my favorite album by The Roots. The story of Redford Stevens is quite a good,gripping story. The album is really good but not perfect, the story is good but far too familiar in comparison the other stories. All the songs are good on the album but a few suffer from lackluster hooks. These problems are minor and shouldn't deter anybody from listening to this album. It's a great concept album and one of the best albums of 2011

The Roots present what is probably my favorite album of 2011. Filled with emotion, a well told story, that might be quite clichee, but is still very interesting, and amazing beats. These support the themes very well, and add a dark, you might even say, mysterious vibe. If you are into Hip-Hop, and even, if you aren't, this is definitely worth listening to.

Hip hop with funk-soul dimensions. The instrumentals on this are a non stop groove and
lyrically the album delivers two fold. This is a concept album about Stephens, a poor kid
from Philadelphia who eventually surrenders himself to the morally corrupt ways of the
streets. These gritty and funky yet soulful tunes are certainly masterful and this album
feels like a grand statement. These melodies are a life lost, embodied by The Roots.

The Roots are the most consistently great hip-hop band of all time. Such a statement is daringly bold, but I can't at this time think of any other group out there who've managed to keep in with the current trends without sounding somewhat disingenuous in doing so. How I Got Over is the most obvious indicator of this: The Roots made their sound considerably more streamlined, but they were still able to one-up the vast majority of their contemporaries in doing so. Now, undun falls somewhere in the middle of that new-age hip-hop sound and their edgier, more raw approach. The Roots are managing to churn out some rof their best material on this concept record; atmospheric, aggressive, and...classical? undun is an incredibly varied and honed sound for the band and sends us a simple message: The Roots are still kicking serious ass!
