Very underrated. Not a masterpiece, but man does this contain some truly brilliant tracks.

Falling Into Infinity is one of my favourite DT albums and I consider it vastly underrated. It is immaculately produced and one of their best produced albums IMO. If anything, DT could do with hiring an outside producer to reign them in and go back to the days when they were a tight unit. As a side note, Derek Sherinian's performance on Falling Into Infinity is almost perfect for a keyboard player, playing for the song and not overstating it.

Damn. This one is painful. Starts off solid with New Millenium, an overall enjoyable Octavarium-vibe song with bery promising keyboards from Derek. Then.... It goes bad. Peruvian Skies is good when it gets going, but beyond that, it is all weak... LaBrie?s vocal chords are also still very audibly shot after food poisoning.

Intended as an accessible, radio-friendly album, Falling Into Infinity is one of the last albums to recommend for anyone looking to get into Dream Theater. The botched alteration to the band's logo on the cover is enough of a hint to know that this is uncharacteristic of the prog metal giants. While not bad, from a fan's standpoint, it's tough to look at Falling Into Infinity objectively and find a good quality without bringing up the issues which affect the entire album.

Being a huge fan of dream theater, i feel like criticism directed at alot of their albums is too harsh as they have almost always released great albums in my opinion. this album was the exception however, as while its not necessarily bad, it was just so boring and unimpressive that theres just no reason to keep listening to it when you can listen to any of their other albums

A great album. Not remotely pop, just shorter songs, and more of them, with two excellent epics in there. However, for the real experience, check out the demos, especially for the missing awesome tracks.

Probably DTs weakest album along with WDADU. Very poor songwriting on a few songs, most notably the straight out pop-rock "You Not Me". The entire album is a greatly simplified down version of DTs sound, without any of the quirkiness of their usual work. Although not a great album as a whole, Myung's bass is impressive and also Petrucci has some nice jazzy-sounding tones on a few songs. Lets face it, this album was a total downer after the previously stunning Images And Words and Awake. The lack of Kevin Moore is clearly felt, and the commercial direction that the album takes does not fit in at all with Derek Sherinian's keyboard style. Tracks like New Millennium and Burning My Soul are some that sound like Dream Theater was attempting to write a strong song, but then decided it might not be 'commercial' enough, and hence dumbed it down some. That is pretty much the feeling throughout the entire album. One of the few songs that does shine through is Lines In The Sand, an upbeat rocker with a very mellow guitar solo in the middle, which goes full blast for a while, throwing in everything the band has to offer. The epic closer Trial of Tears does a decent job, but the absolutely beautiful intro completely outshines the rest of the song minus a few key licks in Petrucci's guitar solo. In the end, Dream Theater failed at going for a different sound, and luckily was able to turn it around by the time the band released their next album.
