Arguably this is Cradle of Filth's most definitive record, is a brilliant output from start to finish. Lyrically, atmospherically and Musically this record is flawless for my taste. The riffs flow at great pace, they have a very unique melody, the drumming is excellent, keyboards are top notch. Maybe the only low point here is the production with doesn't sound as clear as one would like, but is not something that wrong to downgrade this from a 5 rating.

I really tried, but outside of Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids absolutely nothing stands out about this. It just doesn't do anything for me and feels like a chore to sit through.

The cult classic followup of Dusk And Her Embrace bursts force with life and unconstrained theatrical flair. A more fully realized and morbidly dramatic expression of its predecessor's source material, Cruelty And The Beast descends further into the vivid depravity of its central figure. Unmistakably distinct, and unapologetically polarizing, Cradle doubles down in virtually all respects, delivering an equally distinguished Gothic gallery of sin. - 4.8/5

Would be a definite classic if the mixing didn't suck so bad. The bass drum is wayyyyyyyyyyyy too high in the mix and you can barely hear the keyboards and female vocals at all.

Cradle of Filth go through some inconsistencies with Cruelty and the Beast, with some great moments mostly being scattered throughout a mostly unremarkable album. The mixing feels off, Dani Filth's high vocals are simply annoying and even with the relatively excellent "Bathory Aria," little truly stands out here. Conversely, Filth's lower vocals are quite effective and, when the music is energetic enough, this can prove to be quite enjoyable. But you'll likely have to dig a bit into the album to find the real treat.

Despite only listening to a few songs on this album, what I've heard so far is really impressive. Albeit, the quality isn't amazing (blame the mixers), there's a depth to it that just jumps out. The track "Cruelty Bought Thee Orchids" is a true staple-classic.
