4.5 superb | synk | August 16th 21 | Seminal album by the Japanese cult classic duo, legends Takkyu Ishino and Pierre Taki collaborate to perform energetic and varied hip-house/hi-NRG. Released on the label SSE Communications at the sunrise of the 1990s, "662 BPM By DG" paints an amusing picture of Japanese Gen X youth. Bright synths, toyetic drum machine merriment, synthetic slap bass, and goofy samples of virtually every 20th century pop culture artifact I can think of. Hilarious, puts a smile on my face and forces repeated listens. Standout tracks include "Denki Biribiri", "Joe" and the 11-minute-long epic "D-E-P".
