It sounds like what a 2011 hip-hop/R&B-inspired folkie dude that finally got a record deal would come up with: inoffensive, unoriginal, easy-listening, forgettable fodder. Nevertheless, this was Atlantic's CEO's face like back then: ?

The guy has a great voice, I admit. Still, there's little originality to be found on his debut, not to mention the ill-conceived lyricism. I like A-team and I kind of dig Lego House but that's it.

Ed Sheerans debut full length album makes a refreshing change from the frankly awful rap and pop we have recently had on the radio. However, the album does come with mixed results.
The openers, The A-team, is a great catchy ballad that very much sets the tone for the first few songs of the album. It has a catchy chorus, while still keeping a meaning to the song, which most modern pop artists seem incapable of doing.
The next song, Drunk, is a similar yet slightly weaker song, after which is U.N.I., a love song about him leaving his girlfriend due to her leaving for university which young people today can easily relate to. It is my personal favourite off the album, however the album goes downhill from there with few exceptions. Grade 8 is just poor, and I find it hard to listen to. Wake Me Up is another A-team style song, but yet again fails to meet A-teams high standard. Most songs on this album are average with 3 good/great ones and 2 tracks which bring the album down. "This" is a poorly written love ballad, and You Need Me, I Don't Need You is his failed attempt to rap. The final good song on the album is his latest single Lego House, which is an original catchy pop song.
