4.5 superb | Iai EMERITUS | June 26th 06 | If there's a criticism of Legend, it's that it doesn't really flow the way an album should. It's a god amongst compilations, for sure, but it still fails to escape this most basic flaw of almost every compilation ever made. Which is where Exodus comes out on top as the most essential of Bob Marley records. It sounds like a Greatest Hits set in that the quality of the songs never waivers, and every song here could have been a hit, but it's an album in the truest sense. An album that boasts one of the best Side 2 stretches in history - "Jammin'", "Waiting In Vain", "Turn Your Lights Down Low", "Three Little Birds", "One Love (People Get Ready)" - five of the very best Marley songs. It boasts "Natural Mystic" and the title track, too - that's seven songs that rank somewhere around 'legendary'. An obvious pick for the best reggae album ever, sure, but a valid one.

5.0 classic | CrazyFool84 | December 11th 08 | One of Bob Marley & the Wailers finest moments, and a defining album for roots reggae music. Exodus truly captures the spirit of Bob Marley, with the surrounding story of his attempted assassination and following concert performance become the stuff of music legend. For anyone looking to get into this artist aside from his greatest hits compilation, this is the place to start. The music and overall feel of the album is undescribeable, and should definitely hold a place amongst all music fans libraries.

4.5 superb | whatduffhuck7 | January 11th 08 | Many people dont realize that Bob Marley has more music than whats just on Legend. Exodus is a Reggae masterpiece. The heathen, exodus, and waiting in vain are 3 songs that are relatively unheard. This album is a must for reggae fans!

4.0 excellent | Britch2tiger | June 27th 19 | Outside of the title track, the first half of this album pales in comparison to the record's second half. A minor track rearrangement could do this album a favor, perhaps the one thing that keeps this album from tying w/ their Catch A Fire effort.

5.0 classic | Alabaster Jones | January 25th 16 | Being politically active as a musician can be dangerous, as Bob Marley and his wife Rita would find out after being shot at in December of 1976. As a result of this attempt on his life, Bob was exiled to the U.K. under protection, and it was in London where he recorded Exodus, his most revered album. Though Natty Dread changed the way reggae was played, namely, from a bare-bones style to a style rich with instrumentation and backing vocals, Exodus is arguably the better album. Each song has its own clear identity while also being firmly rooted in the familiar aspects of the genre. It also helps that the instrumentation, lyrics, and especially the backing vocals are wonderful, as well as the stoned and peaceful atmosphere. As such, each song is phenomenal, but the closing trio of "Turn Your Lights Down Low", "Three Little Birds", and "One Love/People Get Ready" is absolutely legendary. Truly, then, Exodus is another masterwork of reggae from Marley, being the culmination of everything Natty Dread set into motion.

Good album. I always thought it should be exobus though, since that's what the album cover so obviously says.

5.0 classic | cheekyton | January 4th 10 | Pure brilliance - Every song could have been a major hit on this album - as it is there are no less than 5 confirmed hits on this album already (the title track, Jamming, Waiting In Vain, Three Little Birds, and One Love). Don't even try to compare the posthumous tinsel-ly remixes of WIV and One Love on Legend with the original majestic mixes of these on the Exodus album. Shouldn't this be the definitive Bob Marley's Greatest Hits album? Notwithstanding, even the other album tracks are anything but filler, with Natural Mystic and Guiltiness (to name but two) ranking with the very best songs that Bob Marley ever did.
