Being a huge fan of To Our Forefathers, hearing about the loss of almost every member out of I Am Abomination was pretty shocking. With patience though comes great things, and the two members left weren't giving up too easily, as The Passion of the Heist is one of two releases the band is putting out this year. A concept EP of an apparent alien attack, I Am Abomination hasn't changed a single bit, and as far as instrumental expertise comes, the members of this group can slay. Every song seems like a constant show off from almost every addition this band can offer, multiple mini solos per song and one or two major solos completely steal the show here. It just feels like when they're not shredding around though, things seem to feel a little one dimensional. The rhythm guitar is boring and simple, always just seeming to want to jun it's way through the breakdown based solo melodies and some verses. Attention towards the vocalist here is completely necessary, this guy can sing. He has an absolutely fantastic range and seems to do his job almost perfectly here, even ringing in fine with Caleb Shomo of Attack Attack! in one of the tracks. The problem with this group is the lack of creativity, some moments here feel stolen from their full length, and as the actual notes may not be the same, some full moments just feel borrowed from something they created a song or two previously on the EP. The Passion of the Heist doesn't have all the passion we'd expect to hear from this group, but it's still fun and thoroughly entertaining.
