While it's disappointing to see such a diverse and creative musician make something generic, it's still fucking great.

Program Music I this isn't, but it also is in no way Dec. 5, making Kashiwa Daisuke's 88 something else entirely. It's a pleasant listen from start to finish, with even "My Favorite Things" (yes a cover from The Sound of Music I'm not even fucking kidding) sounding great. However, Daisuke has stripped everything down here, almost too much in fact. The album is full of sublime, lovely melodies, but it's so minimal that it feels almost too light and too passionless. Regardless, it's still one of the prettier releases of the year, and is definitely a step up from his last effort.

The album that single-handedly killed my love for music. Don't get me wrong, the album
itself is pretty good, since this man is incapable of doing wrong. But what this album is,
is a major fuck you to everything Kashiwa Daisuke had been so far. Yes the album is calm and
beautiful, but it lacks what made him great: that feeling of expecting the unexpected and
still being surprised, the melodic randomness, that bunch of noise that came together as
something exhilarating... all of that is gone. Don't approach this album as a Kashiwa
Daisuke album, otherwise you're in for the letdown of a lifetime. Also, it seems Kashiwa
loves to recycle since Scorpion of Red eyes is nothing but a big chunk of Stella.
